[implemented] Playback Speed

thank you

There’s extension you can download that does this I think it’s this one I download but can’t remember for sure https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-speed-controller/gioehmkjkeamcinbdelehlpnpdcdjpdp

I would love to see this feature implemented. I only get 15 minute breaks at work, and it’d be nice to actually be able to speed up the content I’m watching.

Thank you very much for responding, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this feature for years. I paid a hefty price for a lifetime Plex Pass and to be honest it feels like I’ve just been upsold features ever since.

I agree there shouldnt be insulting of people or workers of Plex, that is a No-Go!

But i can also understand the other side @tom80H and im pretty sure you can too. Broken down i think its fair to say that we people just want to know if this is gonna happen or not and that is a legit question. People were voting almost 10 years and waited for an answer. That is a really long time …

As a member since your early days (2014 and before) im the admin of server, bought the product and here in the forum im the quiet reader and dont say much, except i think its really needed.

Regarding of theese long quiet-periods and the mantra of let them vote for 10 years and we maybe say something in 10 years and its not a quarantee that we do this, i really have to speak of on that, because i encounter another company that does that and customers are always very frustrated …

This post has almost 1400 votes and is almost 10 years old, you guys had a long time to check if its “technical-possible” and if its a feature the increases customer-satisfaction or if everyone is wanting this and later everyone is unhappy with this. You guys are free to say thats not true, but think if you are honest to yourself you know that YT and Netflix do provide that and you could have done the evaluation in your head …

Anyway, i think here are many people that want a bit more transparency and i agree to that and extend this even by saying the other company i know that does this is Atlassian … But you guys are not Atlassian … while their target-audience is big and small businesses and many workers and the license cost quite a lot of money 5-6 figures sometimes a year and the have the same thing going, but again you guys are not Atlassian … the main-audience of your customers are we, the people that buy monthly or Lifetime licenses. You want respect in the forums and not beein insulted and we want that too. Saying that beeing hung out to dry 10 years isnt respectful either.

Long story short: All we want is communication and transparency. As your primary customers i think that is a fair thing to ask … because when i personally had 100 customers tell me i do something wrong i would at least take the time to reflect on that and tried to do better next time.

Again no dis-respecting here from me, just my honest opinion and my 2 cents to the topic as the quiet guy in the corner that also reads what happens.

Now for something usefull for everyone - create 3 new bookmarks and name them and as URL please insert

javascript:document.querySelector('video').playbackRate=2;

OR

javascript:document.querySelector('video').playbackRate=1.5;

OR

javascript:document.querySelector('video').playbackRate=1;

And i named them P1, P1.5 and P2. To set video-playback-speed just exist full-screen on web-app, click the button and enter fullscreen again. Hope that helps web-users :sweat_smile:

How the hell is this not a feature after NINE (9) FREAKING YEARS???

I’m also a lifetime subscriber here. How can you work on entirely different apps for eg. playing music like plexamp and not something as simple and important as changing playback speed???

I have tons of video that was recorded in 24fps when it actually should be 25fps. I would like to speed these up. Why is this not an option? How can you let something like this just sit for 9 years and not even do anything about it?

Looking forward to some updates. Please do take it out of the backlog and add it to a sprint soon (if you’re doing Agile there @ Plex)

I’ll be paying for premium as soon as this is implemented. I wonder how much revenue has been foregone due to the lack of this feature…

shudder - we work a little bit differently - and I like to think: better! :grin:

The update here is that it isn’t coming in '23 but we intend to provide more public visibility on our plans for upcoming releases and, yes, this is included in those plans for next year! It is actually in a specific spot in those plans, but we are still working out the best way to communicate this info and it isn’t fair to the team or to you all to get more granular than that right now as we finalize things for next year.

Finally, a much appreciated response. Thank you!

I have to watch over 1000 one piece episodes for example, and with a playback speed like 1.2 or 1.3 it is much better! Because the early anime episodes are too slow!

I use now the vlc player on firetv. its faster on playback, and has this feature.

+1, would be nice

This thread is almost 10 years old, idk why this isn’t a feature yet.

Be nice to know what features are prioritized ahead of this, as I think most people would agree that lacking this feature is a big downer. Also be nice if there was some sort of public roadmap so we can see what features are currently being worked on and we can see updates as time goes on.

I don’t understand why this feature is not implemented. I’m a long term user of Plex (with Plex Pass) and I had to install Jellyfin only for this. Now I use both… It’s opening a huge door for your competition to gain your user base.

would love this feature, especially in a similar fashion to other apps, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x. Surprised it has this much traction in request, but is not implemented.

good to hear!

Hope to increase the speed doubling function

Need this

Coming by to chime in and say I would also greatly enjoy this feature
