Watching a movie for class right now. Would absolutely love this feature. Please listen to the community and get on it Plex.

Please, I beg you to implement this feature! I cannot believe this is not already done!

+1, really would love this!

It was already in the app. The Plex team removed it for some reason.

I too have two devices for which Plex apps are available: Android TV box and Samsung Tizen smart TV. This feature for video content is crucial for me.

I got tired of not knowing what speed I was currently playing at. So I edited the Plex for Kodi plugin. There is a pull request here (but I doubt it would ever get merged):

If you want to start using the changes yourself grab this xml file:

Upload it to this folder (overwriting the one there) /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/addons/script.plex/resources/skins/Main/1080i/
Then grab all the OSD*.png files in this folder:

Upload those to:
/sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/addons/script.plex/resources/skins/Main/media/script.plex/

Now when you change the playback speed you will get a cool round icon on the top left that tells you your current speed!

Hi how do we know if plex is looking to implement this feature suggestion? do they provide feedback?

Hello? Helllllooooooooooo? Bueller? Bueller? Plex devs ya there? Helllllooooooooooo?!

Do something already, for the love of god.

Voted. I am also happy if the feature can technically only be enabled for local videos and those sync’ed from the server and available in offline mode.

Voted.

#1 feature for me, and I would give it all of my votes if I could. I use variable playback speed for podcasts, YouTube videos, instructional videos, documentaries, and movies/shows I’m only casually interested in. I can’t go back to 1x for everything :sob: Thanks for listening!

Voted, dont have much time when watching movies and want to speed up surveilance cam records as well.

netflix got this feature so why not plex

I’m using a browser plugin to accomplish this. But I can think of no reason it shouldn’t be added directly to Plex. Plus I would like it to work on Android.

As a workaround, if you have an iOS device: recently Infuse video player app added playback speed controls, and the feature is available in the free version as well. So you can connect to your Plex server from within the app and watch your playlists at up to x2. It works well for me. Such a shame Plex won’t support this feature though.

Not sure why for almost 7 years this thread has been open and this still isn’t implemented. Any chance a dev from plex can actually address this request?

would be greatly appreciated if this feature was finally added

Put me down for a yes on this also…

Wow, ignored since 2014, 179 upvotes and 0 love from Plex. I wonder why it was removed, if it had already been implemented in an earlier version. Anyone know when it was removed? Thinking the changelog / release notes may indicate something that helps the community come up with a workaround since plex obviously doesn’t want it in there for whatever reason. I mean, clearly Plex has zero interest in listening to this user request - it’s been ages. No mater how many upvotes we are able to accumulate here, its up to us to bail on plex or reverse-engineer a fix.

I currently use external player support for this feature but it really shouldn’t come to that. Plex gets so much right, why is this wrong?
