PIA supports Monterey without Split tunneling activated
This is where I think some of these help documents are out of date. The option is definitely available and can be activated (and work). I’ll attach a screenshot later on of the option.
Have you checked if you have leaks? Look forward to seeing your testing. As for there support Doc’s not been current, I believe your wrong. Hoping your right…
Following up with a basic leak test, everything seems to be functioning appropriately. I know on macOS proxies can be problematic when using purely terminal based networking interfaces. I’m not sure if PIA or Plex handle this in a “friendly” manner per say.
The test was just using a web browser and tunneling alongside a standard torrent client. Note the torrent client is properly behind the VPN while the web browser is not. This is a standard way of testing split tunnel and is not an advocation for torrenting anything illegal in anyway.
macOS Monterey: 12.5 (21G72)
I have also disabled PIA for the day entirely and haven’t experienced the same connection issues with Plex yet. TBD if that continues.
Edit: This is the best response I could get from PIA atm
“ In regards to your concern, the split tunnel is not disabled completely on macOS Monterey. The issue is that when it is enabled on the said OS version, it might create an issue with the internet connection. Mostly losing internet connection. Is there an update on when the M1-native client (not server) will be released? As of Dec 2nd, it’s still requiring Rosetta.

Please Plex employees be transparent here! I am a paying customer.
It is not acceptable to still have an intel client running on an m1 apple silicon chip after such long time regardless of the mess with Qt.
As of now the Plex Player for Mac is taking too much power and thereby inefficient and contributing to my energy bill in a avoidable way, which is not acceptable.
It’s worth reading the rest of that thread as it contains more information including:
Additionally, this is in no way at all dependent on a license from Qt. Our post on that topic which provided more information: Apple Silicon support for Plex player (At least) - #89 by tamas
I received a notification from this forum that this item has been completed and that my vote has been released. Has it?
It’s now 2023 and Apple Silicon support still does not exist. Shesh!
Plex is the only app that’s still running “Intel” on my Mac Studio. Cmon Plex, get it together.
Thankfully the laggy client issues stopped after Ventura arrived, but nevertheless it is very out of character for Plex to be so remiss in supporting a mainstream processor. M1 was released in November 2020, so that’s nearly three years they’ve been giving us the silent treatment.
Apps are released:
