I’ve found several discussions regarding the ordering of photos, but I’ve seen no mention of this particular oddity.
Plex Web seems to display photos in alphanumeric order. But if I open the first photo in a gallery, then hit the ‘next’ arrow, I expect to see the alphanumerically next image. But I usually don’t. I can’t quite discern the pattern Plex Web uses, but it isn’t the same as is used for the thumbnails.
If this belongs in a different forum, please let me know. I reported it in the Voting forum, hoping that others were seeing it, but I got no responses. I considered moving it to Plex Web, but the Roku Preview app is affected as well.
I have deleted the library, optimized/clean bundles/emptied trash, then recreated the library, but the problem persists. This is affecting most of my photo libraries.
Here’s the deal: I have a folder called Slideshows, which contains folders for several different slideshows. The images mentioned in the original post are from one such folder. I create the Plex photo library, pointing to the parent ‘Slideshows’ folder. When the scanner is done, all 13 slideshows are created, and most (not all) exhibit this problem.
I just tried creating a new library, but this time I pointed it at one of the slideshow folders (Agness, the one used in the initial post), rather than the parent folder. When the library was created, all the photos were displayed in the proper order.
So when an individual folder is used, it works correctly. When there are several, something screws up.
Both of the logs you uploaded are mostly empty. Very strange. Your server log does show SQLite errors with your database. Try optimizing the database then restart PMS and check the server log for the SQLite error. If it looks clean, try the photos again.
I have subfolders in mine as well as that is how I have them organized. I go into the library, select the year, then the event. I see the thumbnails for these photos. Click on any of them, say the 5th one, and the photo shows up. Check the number and it says 5 of xx. Checked several different folders and they all works as expected.
I had a brief power outage a couple hours ago, so the system rebooted. Probably explains the small logs.
I just optimized, and restarted PMS. The server log shows the following:
Aug 08, 2015 17:36:04 [0x7f9305c70840] INFO - Plex Media Server v0.9.12.8.1362-4601e39 - ubuntu PC x86_64 - build: linux-ubuntu-x86_64 ubuntu

I’ll try the photos now.
EDIT: Nope, they’re still out of order. Is that warning of any concern?
By the way, I know this was working correctly some time in the past, but I can’t pinpoint when things changed. Several of the slideshows are a couple years old, and when I showed them to a party, they were in order. That was before the big changes, like the premium music libraries, etc.
That warning means it could not comment to plex.tv to publish it’s remote settings? That can happen sometimes at start up, but should clear itself up after a few minutes once startup has progressed.
Can you provide the log when you are viewing the photos? When you view an entire album, PMS creates a play queue of the photos. The lines surrounding that action might provide some insight.
Before I saw your reply, I was messing around with it. I looked at the log and saw a string of messages that the database schema has changed. The last three coincided with me doing an Optimize, Clean Bundles, and Empty Trash.
Attached another copy (renamed because the forum won’t allow duplicates).
Your log is still basically empty. PMS is suppose to update your database whenever there is a change to it between versions. That error means that one of these changes did not occur. Your database might be corrupted and needs to be repaired. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201100678-Repair-a-Corrupt-Database
I don’t know why your log is so empty. Check Settings / General / Show Advanced / Enable Plex Media Server Debug Logging. Make sure it is enabled. There is also a verbose logging option, but we can skip that for now.
The sqlite command to check the database just returned “OK.” As the page said, I went through the repair process anyway, doing the dump and restore steps. When I started the server after doing that, Plex Web said it couldn’t reach the server. I restored my backup, and now everything is back to the way it was.
I enabled debug logging, and created the library again. Log is attached.
I see nothing wrong in your log. Still confused what is going on with your database though.
Anyways, I was able to find a few albums I have that is showing the same issue. I’ll put some info together and let the devs know. Thanks for the report.
I have the same issue. The sequence runs 1 10 100…109 11 110…119 12 120…129 etc.
Just noticed its the same on the pms
This was a newly created library today
The pics are filed: date/location/event/people/no. (1) (2) (3) etc.
This remains as the single most problematic issue in the Photos section of Plex. I can’t run a photo slideshow for my friends, because I can’t get Plex to show photos in the defined order.
@MovieFan.Plex Since you were able to recreate this problem, I was hoping that the next major improvement to the Photos library would resolve this, but that doesn’t seem to have happened. This behavior is unchanged in my libraries, but, hey, the libraries look nice.
When you passed this on to the developers, did you get any feedback?
