I vote for this as well, it is not just needed but required.
How has this not been implimemted yet? This should have been put in with the first release⦠this definitely gets my vote! Love the other suggestions in this thread as well, hopefully they take this thread into consideration.
Add me to the list who are surprised this isnāt a feature yet! We can restrict people to certain shares and even by movie rating. Why not set an upper limit for bandwidth as well?
PS, Remember to āLikeā the very first post in this thread in order for your vote to count. Merely commenting here does not do the trick!
+1 from me aswell.
Agree, this should be a server setting. Bandwidth shaping doesnāt help with this.
The OP proposed that the client should be altered for this to work - I donāt agree, this perfectly can be done on server side only. PMS shouldnāt care what the client asks, even if it asks 12mbit it should just override the request & transcode to a lower bitrate and offer that - client wonāt care.
It is basically setting a max somewhere on the interface, and
āif client requests > servermaxrating then set transcode bitrate to servermaxratingā
right?
EDIT: 1068 likes donāt lie⦠this is a much wanted feature.
Voted yes and +1. I really really need this feature!
I vote a big fat yes to this⦠+1
why is this even a problem seriously I have never see n anything like this. I have seen free applications via file sharing etc that the owner can set how much bandwith the server is allowed to use amongst users or able to cap individual users. Why is plex an application im paying for dont have this very simple option. If the developers of plex is brilliant enougn to build such a fantastic GUI surely they are smart enough to provide this very simple and no brainer option on Plex Media Server. Honestly the client should nat have more control than the owner of the server
I voted +1!!! Iām getting to the point that if this doesnāt happen soon iām just going to kick everyone off my server. Please please PLEASE Devs, consider this as a MUCH needed feature for the server!
I wish there was a way for me to vote multiple times!
Another vote for yes. Iām surprised how discussed this has been for some time, and still nothings come of it
Adding my +1 to this
+1 Would definitely improve the user experience for everyone.
+1 for this one, some not so smart users have caused a lot of havoc, QoS from the router only goes so far to help.
+1 for this⦠But seeing as this is years old⦠Reminds me of my LG WebOS2 app⦠-__-
+1 from me ⦠Iām tired of getting of choppy video when others are playing my content. I should get priority service.
+1 although I have the network to handle this I would prefer more control on my server side.
Yes a server side setting for force transcoding for remote users would be great. I mean just because a remote client can digest a 10gb file directly doesnāt mean I should be pushing a 10gb file to them. The impact on all other clients streaming at that same time is just not fair. And even though I ask my friends and family to disable direct play and direct stream you canāt always rely on that happening.
By the time Plex implements this everyone will have one gig connections and it wont matter.
+1 pleaseā¦
Just had to have a talk with somebody about their remote settings and they still went and ran āoriginalā quality killing my upload.
