[Implemented] Server-Side Speed Limits/Caps for Shared/Subscribed Users

+1 from me too this is the biggest thing I'd like to see.  Per user control where I can give who I want a certain bandwidth limit on the fly whenever i want.

I always was surprised that this didn't exist in the first place...

Users shouldn't have full and exclusive control of the server bandwidth, the PMS admin should...

I need to warn my remote users of my upload speed and guide them setting up their video quality setting in their own clients, in their environment... And spying on their activities from time to time to make sure they keep these settings... Never made sense to me...

So yeah, +1, important feature :)

I vote for this!

Definite +1~~

Thanks a lot .

I am sure there are free alternatives but I have always used Netlimiter for things like this on Windows. It will allow you to limit the bandwidth by process and/or IP address and even has a scheduler. That way you limit only external users and not your own internal devices.

This doesn't actually effect the transcoder though right?  If I limit someone to let's say 2 and they are trying to stream at 3 they'll keep having to go through buffering.

I would assume that is what would happen but I don't limit my plex bandwidth - I just happen to have used this product to limit bandwidth on a windows PC/server in the past. You would need to test to see if plex just tries to hand out the 3mb stream and buffers or if it is smart enough to only do what it can. I really don't know what the behavior would be in a circumstance like that.

+1 for limiting the amount of concurrent connections a user can have.  my friends think it's cool to give out their plex details and before you know it I've got 5 things streaming under the same user account.

ie. restrict UL speed per IP, with 30min ban if exceeded with warn message, eg. 'lower bitrate blah'

something like this is free but not sure if per IP...

I'm actually surprised this hasn't been implemented to some degree yet.  I don't see any reason why I can't tell the transcoder never to transcode above a certain bitrate even if it was as simple as adding a single if statement to the code basically If user requested bitrate > then set it to .  Take it one step farther where I can add that setting on a per user basis and call it a day lol.

+1.

I would already be very happy with the ability to limit the number of streams per other plex user.

That way we might avoid "always" transcoding.

Some of my Plex friends have big families (7 people +), and all of them have tablets.

And of course they all use daddy's Plex account. And the dad is my friend, so I share my library with him.

Without him knowing about it, regularly I have 5 streams uploading to his account.

And...he is not my only friend with a big family.

So, just limiting the number of streams would already be great.

Kind Regards, CH.

We need this ! Please

We sure do! Before xmass too!

This really needs to be a top priority!

Don't really care about the cap so much as a graph that just shows data usage.  And bandwidth throttling is a great idea.
