[Implemented] Server-Side Speed Limits/Caps for Shared/Subscribed Users

+1

BTW, you can get excellet graphs and usage by using plexWatch and plexWatchWeb (just a web frontend for plexWatch).  This is the best addon for Plex.  This should come built in to Plex as a default.  Not impossible to install but also not for newbs...

Any completed instructions to install the things like plexWatchWeb? I went to the github page and the instructions on the site say Todo for all three operating systems which doesn't help in the slightest.

+1 from me. I'd like to see this to help those who stream shared content not to have to deal with constant buffering as they need to setup the limit appropriatly in their client. If this can be done server side I can choose what my max bandwidth is or what I'm confortable with having used of my available bandwidth.

ya I can't tell you how many of my users have complained about how the videos stop constantly when they are trying to direct play a transport stream over a 3mbit DSL line!

well.. it should better auto adapt in that case...

While I technically can already control my upload bandwidth using my firewalls or routers utilizing traffic policing or shaping policies, I can definitely see how this would be a worthwhile feature to include.

I personally can't use the following product because my network is actually too large for the free version, I would highly recommend it to other users that have less than 50 internal devices (IP addresses) on their internal networks.   That said, I did check it out a while back and I was very impressed by what I saw.  If you would to like to start having some real bandwidth control, flexibility, and security over all the communications going in and out of your network, and are decently comfortable with your networking skills: Sophos UTM Firewall (Free for home use edition).

http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-utm-home-edition.aspx

This is a full featured enterprise level product that is given to you for free, just so you meet the requirement of having less than 50 devices on your network, which I suspect most would fall under.  You will never get this kind of control out of a consumer level router.  This could technically just replace your router, or atleast take over that function, and then use your Wireless Access Point just in a simple bridge mode.

It can definately do QoS and bandwidth throttling that is being requested here....although maybe not quite as seemless as handling it in myPlex itself.  I'm all about people becoming more security aware, especially for their home networks. So, if your not scared of getting your hands a little dirty when it comes to networking, and have a device/VM you can install it on, check it out.

(and no I have no affiliation with this company...its a free product after all)

This would be a good feature. Basic bandwidth controls per user could be set, so even if the user sets 12Mbps on their client PMS will still only serve up 3Mbps for example.

Combine this with overall bandwidth control and you're set... but of course the user would need some indication of what their current limits and usage are, so there's a tremendous body of work required there.

+1. Almost the whole family is using my plex server. It would be awesome if I could control (and monitor?) the amount of data they are using, the upload speed, ...

well… now that we have proper parental controls something tells me this is going to be the next big feature request

I hope so! When i saw plex home, i was expecting this to be part of it.The hard parts been done, being able to limit the actual maximum down speed seems like a logical part of it. Hopefully in the next update! Hopefully elan will pop in with a little wink that its on the cards.

Yea I was expecting it in this release too does look like we're finally getting closer though!

Here's hoping this is coming soon now! Glad we got some parental controls, but this would be great too.

Sorry, my Tapatalk is only showing 3, I don't know what's wrong with it...
My apologies.

+1 for me...love to limit # of users at any 1 time.. 5.5Mbit up seems 2 users are fine but the 3rd. and all heck breaks loose
