I use subsonic for this because plex cannot limit on the server side, and some people just can be trusted to keep their bandwidth at a reasonable level if they have control over it

So you use this in conjunction with plex? How?

Rate limiting, throttling, or some form of control of remote speeds when sharing with family would be great.

Today, we had three different remote locations attempting to stream full quality.  It destroyed my upstream.  It's hard to educate some family members how to ensure they are streaming a maximum capacity because that's just too technical for them.

I have had to go to people's houses and set the limit myself as they coudn't figure it out.  I have one now that can't find the option using the Amazon Fire Stick.  Anyone know where the remote streaming setting is for the stick?  I came here hoping I could limit the bandwith server side, but I guess not yet.  I did like the first post.

There is no Remote Streaming setting in the Plex app for the AFTV stick. The only setting it has works for both local and remote.

Thanks for the info.  Do  you know where I can find that setting?  I tried finding it by going over the menu with him over the phone, but he couldn't find it.
