This option would be availabe at TV series.

I can't possibly see this happening unless there exists a database out there somewhere which keeps track of all possible releases for each episodes that exists and its time codes for when an episode actually starts. Otherwise couldn't understand when to start playback.

I think the intro is always the same lenght so e.g a series need to start at 2:10 so you just need to know once where it start, then you know it for all of them in the season. I think its done able, the plex crew will find a solution if enogh ppl like it.

Sure, the length of the intro is most likely almost identical on all releases, but when the intro starts can differ quite heavily depending on when that specific scene group decided to start recording the episode, not to mention the extreme difference it could be between scene and web-dl releases. My guess is that without a database this will not happen.

But you are right about one thing, you can always create feature requests for seemingly impossible things, because maybe in the near future such a database will exist. I only replied to give you a heads up that it is not likely to happen due to a couple of possible issues.

Maybe plex can develop an algorithm which is able to scan media and see the intro by calcualte the time of video content which is near the same, so and then jump into the right start time, I think its not that big deal ;)

I also think there is no database required for this feature.

I will not continue to pollute this thread if you do not want to (that would be rude of me), but let me know if you want to continue to discuss why this will be very very hard to implement without a database, and I will gladly do it.

This is impossible for a lot of shows. A lot of the shows I watch sometimes have cold opens (a scene before the beginning credits start), they sometimes have a ‘previously on’ sequence before the beginning credits, and they sometimes have a shortened beginning sequence, and some of them have a 2/3 second title only. It’s so inconsistent that, as Atrus said, there’d have to be a database where people manually noted the title sequence times for every episode of every show. I believe Netflix do this to an extent for some shows.

Yep they do, and they can do it because they only have one version, and they are the ones adding them. For Plex that would become completely impossible without a database which a lot of people contribute to.

You can do what Netflix does, be careful not to include the chapter that happens to be the intro when you encode it.  The burden is on the person that encodes the content, not on the media server.

Simply allowing admin users to manually set a start time per episode as desired in each episode’s edit dialog would suffice for me. Yes, it’s a tedious process, but the overall convenience once configured is undeniable.
