Did a quick search and didn't see it already listed.

 

I'd love to see support for lyrics. Either embedded in files or (ideally) scraped from an online service. Each client UX could handle them in their own appropriate way (be it as a slide-in panel on the now playing page, or as a separate view entirely, etc). I would love some sort of lyrics functionality though.

Crazy, I was just looking into this myself.  I just found out that there is a tag in the ID3 spec for lyrics (two, actually.  One for unsynchronized lyrics (USLT), and one for synchronized lyrics (SYLT)).

I added lyrics to this tag in a song using kid3 tag editor to see if/how Plex Media Server would handle it.  Kid3 puts the lyrics in the USLT frame, according to documentation.  It appears that PMS does not read lyrics from this tag.

I don't know if this is a bug, or if Plex just keeps user-entered lyrics in its own database.

Personally, I would rather store the lyrics in the ID3 tag, for portability.

What devices support lyrics?  Plex uses the built in player from the device so unless that device's music player has a way to show the lyrics, it is just a waste for PMS to have them.  The only exceptions are the WebApp and PHT.

I'm not sure what others are thinking, but I don't envision anything like a scrolling 'karaoke'-style display while the song is playing.  I'm thinking something like this:

  1. In the Roku Preview app, I'm looking at a track list (whether for an album, or the currently-running playlist).
  2. Next to the currently focused track is a '...' control.
  3. Click the '...' to bring up the menu there (on a running playlist, this has Plex Mix, Go to Artist, Go to Album.  On a static album track list it has Play next, Add to queue, Plex Mix.).

I would simply like a new item on that menu to display the lyrics for the selected song, similar to the artist Biography display.

I don't think that usage model would depend on the underlying player, would it?

Like it. Also, I'd like to be able to search the embedded lyrics.

Lyrics please. Local lyrics first. If none exist, then go out to an online service. But always go for local first. And synced Lyrics are awesome.

Totally agree I think should be the next step to improve the Music section.

I too would like to see this. Look at how Spotify partnered with Musixmatch to be able to show synced lyrics at all times and how popular it became. This would really improve the music experience (not that it isn’t already awesome).
