[implemented] Subtitle plugin in the desktop client

this thread seem to be quite old, do we assume this will not be implemented ? :frowning:

+1

This is the only reason I still have to use Kodi :frowning:

Doing a “+1” does nothing. The voting in this forum works by you giving the first post a “like”. So please do that so we can get more votes on this

I believe something will happen, but not the way we think it will.

Lets hope, it’s ridiculously easy to do it in Kodi, hope a similar thing can happen

Huh? That has been in PHT and PMP since the beginning. Which app are you referring to?

PMP. This is really embarrassing I wasn’t aware of it. I am not gonna ask how to do it, will find out myself

Don’t worry. I make mistakes like that myself more times than I care to admit. It is easpecially easy when it is a preview app like PMP is, as documentation is not up-to-snuff yet due to the extensive feature additions popping up all the time.

Anyways. Maybe you were referring to the UI, and then you are still correct. That has not yet been added (it is on its way though). But you can adjust subtitle delay with whatever remote or keyboard you have. With a keyboard you just hit Alt+S" to increase subtitle delay and Alt+Shift+S to decrease the delay.
There are keyboard commands for audio delay as well if you want to. All is in the inputmap.
If you want to add it to a remote of your choice you just use inputmaps. Let me know if you need info on that.

I include subtitles when making mkv’s from my DVDs. I don’t understand - what’s the need for a subtitle plugin?

  1. DVD:s have bitmap images as subtitles. That causes transcoding on the PMS machine if the client is not PMP or PHT. Text based subtitles does not cause that on many clients due to the softsubs feature.
  2. DVD bitmap images are low-res and look like crap on any big TV. Text based subtitles scale infinitum maintaining quality.
  3. DVDs or Blurays may not contain subtitles for your language. Happens quite often if you buy movies from for example Amazon.

I see; thanks for explaining!

I totally agree with this topic. Please

Eagerly waiting for this. Upvoted the topic

Couldn’t stress enough how important this is.
Look at Kodi and Emby, they have the ability to search from the interface and choose the sub you want.

Voted, and +1 in the comment \o/ I’m a Lifteime Plex Pass member using almost exclusively Kodi because of that missing feature. It’s been asked since 08/2012, so more than 4 years. Pretty sad.

I used Kodi for a really long time until I finally found out Plex has keyboard controls for it.

I think users will switch to Plex if this feature will be implemented into the UI, because it would be way more easier to find it. I mean, it took me like a year before I decided to search for it again.

Wow! This thread was created in 2012?!? And more than 10 pages?!? I guess this states by itself this is a very popular request

+1 on the probably nevergoingtoseethesunlightfeature

+1 take a look at how Emby implemented this …

+1 for some form of direct play subtitles that work across all clients.

The lack of this feature forces us to keep Kodi. Subtitles matching is done wrong 30% of the time. This is one of the main limitation of Plex imho

For me I mostly cast from my phone to one of my chromecasts. So keyboard shortcuts won’t work for me.
