[implemented] Subtitle plugin in the desktop client

+1 excelent

This would be great for DVR recordings or media that didn’t come with subtitles. I need this!

I found this topic because at least a couple of other topics asking for a subtitle/closed captioning feature in Plex were closed and admonished to look for similar topics before posting. However, this topic is several years old and it appears that nothing has been done to address this issue. I have Sub-zero and it doesn’t work any better for me than the native Plex options. All of the options seem to be designed for fairly high level geeks and I am afraid I do not fall into that category, so I simply don’t use Plex for much of anything and gave up on the DVR shortly after it was released. Ultimately I think Plex needs to decide if they really want to become a mainstream app or if they just want to cater to the computing elite who can figure out all of the cryptic terms and programming language to get subtitles working. I have hearing loss and will not watch programs without closed captioning, so my Plex Pass is pretty much worthless. If they don’t remedy this by the time it expires, I see no reason to renew it.

Please, I got Plex Pass because i really believe in this project and I want to definitely switch to Plex. But, until there are no subtitle download support (and not just from opensubtitles) I and many others like me, are stuck in Kodi for TV Series.

How does Kodi handle it? I generally just grab the subtitles if Plex does
not get it automatically and I do not have issues with that process. It
would be nice to be able to upload though the webpage without using the
unofficial app store but putting them in the folder is not that big of a
pain and Plex rarely grabs the wrong subtitles anyway for me.

That is pretty nice. That would be useful.

This has just been released for the web app. Other clients to follow.
