[Implemented] Sync Playlists

Long over due, please add yesterday.

agreed, i bought plex pass hoping to get this even a couple days sooner when it finally arrives

Oh yes please! Just got Plex on all our Android gear and TOTALLY needs this!!!

+1 def a must have feature

So…looking through old Plex Blog posts and this feature was brought to the iOS app on 8/10/2015! :-w

I’m not sure if the Plex team has noticed but it is 8/22/2016! Over a whole year and we still don’t have this for Android?? Shame on you Plex! Usually I’m pretty patient but this is a joke… For shame… [-X

this was requested 2 years ago and still not implemented. it’s a shame this is missing in android app. please don’t make us wait another 2 years

I strongly suspect it’s missing for some reason other than ā€œwe just haven’t gotten around to it yetā€. There is no feature more wished for than this and, for a product that lives or dies by it’s support from the likes of us, it is very curious that such a feature does not exist.

+1 - I’m adding my support for this feature too.

They did say that changing sync v1 to v2 was taking them time. . But when the code already exists for another platform, I have a hard time understanding a whole year of delay.

Specific to sharing play lists (not syncing), couldn’t they just allow us to add all items in a play list to a new library, rather than using a specific folder? Seems like it would be a simple way to allow sharing of ā€œcollectionsā€

@TotallyJuvenile

Maybe I don’t quite understand what you mean but in Plex a library points to a collection of folders not files. With that in mind Plex would have to totally retool the library mechanism to allow a file to exist in a playlist library and in another library at the same time. A major UI change would also be required because currently the library’s exist at the root of the menu in the Plex clients. Adding more than a couple"playlist library’s" would make that unmanageable fast. In the end just adding playlist sharing seems like a better idea.

Alternatively I suppose Plex could just copy all the media from one folder to another and duplicate your media but that would consume a lot of disk space, be slow, and Plex would then be managing files which aside from the option to delete it really does not currently do. It would also present versioning issues and search complications.

Library’s also don’t allow you to order the media in a way that emulates a playlist

I totally agree a major overhaul is needed! Big time! Short cuts to playlists, search for songs by titles, widget, caching, quick star ratings, and so much more is needed!

With that said, have you had an opportunity to play with Plex on iOS? It functions great! At least in relation to this conversation about playlist syncing. In my opinion, at least.

And just a note… If you think about Playlist sharing it really can get quite complicated. Since there are permissions in Plex at the library level and the ā€œPlex Homeā€ level it would have to apply that to the user accessing the playlist and on an item by item basis handle if a user has rights to that item and handle it appropriately.

Next what happens if the same media file exists in my library and the person sharing the list? Does it just play the media from the remote server or try to match it up to my local content? What if it is synced locally?

Gets kinda confusing if you think about it.

This is why I think they should focus on giving us playlist sync on Android first since its way more straightforward and already present on the apple client… Also cause its the feature I want most…

I misunderstood your comment…I see now that you HAVE played with iOS! Sorry.

Sync V2 when guys? It’s been years.

I think we’d all (android users) take sync v1 at this point… but yeah, v2 would be great too.

Wow, i too thought this was a basic feature. Can’t believe it hasn’t been implemented with all these requests

Any idea on when this will be implemented on Android because it’s leaving me with only a couple of options - ditch Android and switch to an iPhone, or pay for Google Play subscription, neither of which I want to do and the latter will results in having to ditch the PlexPass subscription.

+1 - a must have feature

+1 Please! Plex has become my essential media life. Only in the car I am missing synced playlist. Plus an addon for Android Auto would be great, so I could use Plex on my Mediacenter in the car too.
