Local/Online Trailer Support
A menu option in the contextual menu of a movie would be nice. I have trailers for almost all of my movies in their folders as title-trailer.mov. I know XBMC searches YouTube for a trailer if it can’t find a local one but that seems like a bonus feature to me.
Edited to reflect both Local and Online trailer support.
I think we should extend this feature request to pull in online full 1080P trailers, even pulling in different versions, such as “Teaser 1” “Teaser 2” “Theatrical Trailer,” etc. I feel saving trailers is a huge waste of space, when they are all available online, all the time
Please let this be a priority, Plex team! I have been wanting trailer support since the inception of Plex/Nine, and it has been pleaded repeatedly on the forums. Now as a Plex Pass user, I hope this may get a bit more priority now. Thank you so much!
A trailer watching feature would be so nice!
I third this motion and add that there are sites like youtube we can use to support several options to provide trailers for movies,
infact I would be willing to start a free public (within legal standards) trailer website for use with plex. (LIke thetvdb.com but trailer streaming).
Then much like Plex does with Posters if a local exist it can be added as an option to use local , overide if local exists.
Use local and Remote or use just remote trailers to save bandwidth.

+1 , 720p is also fine btw.
Yes please, trailers!
- for movies in the local plex database
- add (optional) cinema mode: play trailers of upcoming cinema movies before starting a movie. Perhaps region based, since the release dates vary (US, Europe, …)?
I agree that this feature should be a priority, I also feel we should have local and online support as local trailers being a waste of space is highly debatable and trailers are not available online all the time especially not on youtube where they get pulled on a regular basis. with a feature like this choice is king so both local and online are needed.
I for one would really like this feature too, and maybe an option to always play trailers before movies to get in the right “cinema” mood
+1000 been hoping for trailer support for years now. My preferred method would be for Plex to look first if a local trailer resides in the movie folder and play that, then if not fall back to the XBMC way of doing it.
This is also one of my top 3 feature requests. And i totally agree that using online trailers would be awesome but i also think such a feature will be really complicated to achieve. That’s probably why it isn’t realized yet. But like D4RK mentioned: Offline trailers is a good start for now. Just let us put some trailers in the Movies parent folder and make PMS find it. That would be a lot better than just use this crappy low-res trailers some websites have. But of course maybe the low-res trailers could be used as fallback if no offline trailer is available.
Thank’s by the way for the awesome PLEXPass thing.
Love to support you guys!
Awesome work!
+1 We used to be able to do this with Plex! I believe it was pulling IMDB trailers?
The old version had it and I loved it for it, I miss this feature!! Pllllease bring it back… My vote goes for trailers!

I would love this feature!! As a related improvement, it would be great to be able to store bonus content (i.e. extras) with their movies.

Yes, please add trailer support!
I have local trailers for almost all my movies, so support those, and - if it is possible - YouTube and/or Apple Trailers
I don’t have a single trailer for any of my more than 600 movies, but if you add trailer support I’ll be a busy fella downloading them. Top priority feature for me and I’d love to see it happen.
Also, the cinema mode option to play a DTS/DolbyDigital clip and/or a couple trailers before the movie starts would be awesome. I know Plex used to have this, bring it back!
+1 +1 +1
+1 for trailers.
+1 from me, too. Is there a standard naming convention for local trailers within movie folders? I only really have the main movie and the occassional poster, never have bothered to get a trailer locally.
