[Implemented] Trailer Support

I fully agree!!! BUMP!!!!  :P

+1 for locally stored trailers

Playlist support would make the basics of this immediately possible for local trailers, and with he right plugin, it could even mean a cinema-type experience where random (or related) trailers are shown before the main feature.

Vote for playlist support here: https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/46288-very-popular-playlist-system/

Note: I’m suggesting that you add a second vote to that thread, since it would be the building blocks of trailer support the way it’s suggested, and more work would be needed on top of that.

I'm sorry but I don't necessary agree with this.

I voted on playlist because it's a good feature but I really don't think one should rely on the other... (or we shouldn't presume it)

I'm not saying that this is not the way it would end up but IMO, this trailer support (not talking about fetching here) would be another function in movie details (along with play) that would simply read "(moviesfilename)-trailer.ext" and the agent (local media asset I presume..) would add the trailer on scan (or refresh).

Built-in like the TV theme songs a bit (kind of)

A specific agent can be done (even by other dev) but I REALLY don't what to go in a channel for this, the goal, I think is to access it from the movie in the library.

I don't want trailer to depend on a playlist personally.

Basically, like in XBMC (or other products for that matter), they got it right and simple; default local fetchers sees the naming convention for trailers and add it as local trailer for the movie (or also in their case, adds the youtube URL from nfo but that's another feature in my mind).

Playlist has nothing to do with it.

Like I said, if Plex team itself confirms that local trailers support , the way they decide to do it, WILL depend on playlist, fine. But until any confirmation, we shouldn't vote on playlist to have local trailer support on how we think or presume Plex team will implement it. (but please vote on it if you also want playlist, just saying not to vote on a feature to have another one...)

I would hope to have both personally but for me, local trailers comes WAY before (my opinion of course). I'm not sure if Plex team decisions and priorities are just based on number of votes... They must have a road map of their own.

***Just yesterday, my GF, was navigating in all the movies and was wondering if a specific movie was in her taste, plot kind of described the movie, but trailers really confirmed if she was interested to watch it... So she prefers XBMC because of it. (she still uses Plex but not in those scenarios, that's what is great with Plex, a lot of different platforms/clients and way to use it  ;) )

And BTW, to all of you saying that it's useless, think about the TV theme song... Very nice feature (really I love it) but nobody can really say that it's super useful for a user  :P .

Online trailer streaming would be amazing!!!

This would be great! Maybe a link to another service like Flixster would even work?

So much for getting them this year. Didn't someone say that 2013 we would see trailers?? ???? ? ? ? ?

Yeah, at this point, voting ain't gonna change anything...

Plex team has a road map, pretty sure they know users want trailers so we just need to hope it's planned... If not, this tread isn't going to change anything at this point IMO. (more than a year now, this tread has been opened)

+1 one from me!

PLEASE implement this!

even if it's just pops up as one of the quality settings and it's up the owner to mput the movie trailer video in the folder!

Please like/upvote https://forums.plex.tv/topic/52670-movie-and-tv-extras/ for generic extras support, which could also be used for local trailers.

Chromecast was a huge add, many props everything works great!  But how long must we ask for trailers..online, local, hand drawn anything!?!

At this point, just keep bumping this tread... I guess if we're annoying enough.... :P

Just make sure that the trailers never go above the content rating of the movie chosen, and I'm totally behind this.  In other words, I don't want a trailer for Saw 27 "The Uber Gory Cut" to be randomly chosen when I go to play an animated Disney movie for the kids.  If this plugin, or any other movie trailer capability didn't restrict the rating of the trailer being shown to that of the chosen content, then I'd immediately disable it even though I'd personally love to have it part of Plex.  And this all comes back full circle to the missing parental controls in Plex.

lol.

Well, the local trailer support, the way I see it, is a trailer within the movie folder (or online also I guess but still associated with movie user is in its detail screen.

So I don't think Saw 27 "The Uber Gory Cut (love that title BTW  )f would run on movie Bambi II. (god I hope  )

Smart trailer feature would be cool! Not only could we watch a trailer for a specific movie, but we could also see a few trailers prior to watching a selected movie, and each trailer could be related in genre, and be movies in our library we haven’t seen yet. That could be cool! Plus it would remind us to watch some other stuff we may not get to right away
