Well, that’s just not going to happen. Plex never gives any kind of timelines like that, and that is nothing new, nor is it likely to change.
Well then naturally people will feel ignored, frustrated, annoyed and disenchanted as a whole. And so the cycle continues…
It feels bad to be treated like this as a paying customer though. Why is is so difficult for Plex as a company to show some commitment to solve such a long standing issue as this? Is Plex feeling so high and mighty that they do not care that the competition solved this ages ago?
I can’t really answer those questions, I’m doing my best to be as upfront and open as I can be with the information I have. We’ve already committed to continuing to work on improving the players across all our clients, and periodically updating the playback engines our work is based on. At this point, I’m not sure what else I can say that will satisfy people
I just want subtitles to work on the product i payed for.
I don’t feel that is unreasonable.
We all want that. @DaveBinM does his best to keep up communication - even if he has no instant solution to you.
Obviously, there’s more than one issue on the Plex Android TV player to work on.
I personally feel, that FireTV player app crashes and restarts, interrupted playbacks, etc are more frequent in current versions than they have been in the past.
These are hard to pin-point because there’s no easy way of providing FireTV app logs.
That being sad, me personally wrote a big article on subtitles and I feel, that slow progress is being made. Not enough to shout “mission accomplished”, but I see the effort.
I can understand your point that you are frustrated because nobody comes up with the solution for the problem you asked for.
I would welcome if you would not blame the poor guy for his company’s policies.
Doesn’t it sound good that they WILL upgrade to the actual version at some point?
Maybe it is even contributing to the goal of giving it a higher priority if you could list the fixes of current Exoplayer versions that are crucial to users like you.
Maybe this enables @DaveBinM to speak to the devs about the importance of that thing being done. I would love to hear about those fixes, if you can shed some light on this.
Agreed, it’s not National pick on Dave day… that’s tomorrow or next week sometime haha
Let’s not detract from the thread please.
No one is picking on anyone and everyone knows Dave is limited by what he can do. There are long standing unresolved issues with no concrete acknowledgement, improvements or resolutions in sight. This is and remains a Plex issue and has been for a long time and apparently Plex doesn’t want to officially acknowledge, comment or commit to anything ever. We all want Plex to improve, being the best it can be and what people have paid for.
Guess I’ll take leave that day then
I’d like to think I’ve certainly acknowledged and commented on issues, I’ve spent a good deal of time diving through logs, and trying to reproduce issues for devs to give them as much to work with as I can. However, we don’t have an unlimited number of developers or development hours, unfortunately, so we can’t always address every issue with the speed everyone would like.
It’s unlikely we’ll ever solve every single issue people have due to the sheer number of different Android devices that exist, different server hardware and OS combinations, different network conditions, not to mention all the different kinds of media, codecs, containers, encoding methods, etc. but we do our best to address issues as best we can. Sometimes that means fixing bugs, sometimes it means adding new features that people want (Skip Intro as an example), but we’re dedicated to improving the experience for as many people as we can.
Vote for App/Player update at the top of the thread. It’s time Plex fixes what they’ve known to be an issue for years.
It wasn’t my intention to pick on @DaveBinM as an individual. If it was seen in such a way, then I apologize. My critisism was intented at Plex as a company. My issue with the whole thing is that this no talk policy is not a good way to engage with the users. Why even have a forum at that point?
Going a bit back to the subtitle issue of this and many other threads it seems that the issue might even not be with Exoplayer? @anon18523487 suggested this here, but as he is not a developer he can’t give a very concrete response either. Nvidia SHIELD/Android app SSA/ASS format anime subtitles + transcoding problems - #85 by MovieFan.Plex
And this is sort of my issue with the whole thing. Why can’t a developer just clear this up once and for all? It’s just pointless to have the users guess what the problem is. If the problem isn’t Exoplayer then why not just say so upfront? This thread is completely pointless if the issue isn’t even from Exoplayer, but here we are. @DaveBinM is frustrated because he can’t share information and just have to be on the recieving end of a years old problem, the users are frustrated because we are left in the dark and no one is having a good time.
I just think it’s a shame that it seems to be necessary to find torches and pitchforks to get a proper response from Plex…
And just to make it clear, I am very well aware that Plex is engaging a lot with the community at the forums, so I’m not as angry as I might seem to be in this thread.

When free app players are least twice as fast at changing channels. It is a player problem.
It’s more than just the subs, I can take any player and match it to plex, and it’s easily twice as fast. ANY APP
Not to mention Plex free live TV, Movies, and News is still broken on the FireTV App. Nothing works! Its time for an App/player update.

If your talking about the ExoPlayer issues then I would suggest that you go to that group and state your concerns.
Thanks, this is very much on topic.
Vote up top for ExoPlayer/app update.
Not sure what you mean…
There’s a tab at the top of this page to vote on player update.
Yea… But Plex doesn’t update the ExoPlayer…
That’s the point of voting. The more people that vote, the more priority it takes.
True “IF” Plex had that option…
