Came here to post this same thing! Here’s the proof: https://github.com/google/ExoPlayer/pull/7667
I think people here are also confusing the New Player / Old Player with ExoPlayer. Both the old and new players use the same version of ExoPlayer. The new / old players are about how we work with ExoPlayer.
Nydave69 who joined late, and aurgued with reason does seem to be confused.
This is not.
Thanks for clearing that up.
How old do you think the version is?
I would guess the core Exo is close to 2 years old, of course I can’t be sure of that because you haven’t replied to it.
Our base version of ExoPlayer is listed in our release notes whenever we update it, so it’s publicly available to see. However, we do not just use stock ExoPlayer, but have a variety of other work on top of it.
using the forum search, this appears to be last noted upgraded exoplayer entry
- Player: upgrade ExoPlayer to v2.10.3.
source tag r2.10.3 on Jul 14, 2019
Plex for Android 7.22.0 sept 2019
which was 11 months ago, and many versions away from Plex for Android 8.5.1
most current exoplayer tag r2.11.8
Thats not a core exo update.
This was the last
Does this look like dodging.
Vote up top for player update!
Still useless 2 years later.
Well, there’s no ExoPlayer v3. There was ExoPlayer, then ExoPlayer v2. So I don’t know what else you’d call a “core exo update”, if not updating ExoPlayer from the release versions
If you’d like to participate in improving a broken app, you can just vote up top, no point in trying to water down a voting thread.
Not exactly sure why a plex employee would try to make improvements difficult, rather than help with them???
Vote for latest exo player update at the top of the thread.
If it’s been 11 months, perhaps a maintenance update of Exoplayer not too far off though?
Seems like somthing to do every 6-12 months. ![]()
@bette1, I think you are confusing upgrading Exoplayer with replacing the player in the Android app with a different one? That’s a completely different discussion, and more or less a pointless one, as Plex is not very upfront with their reasoning for why they went with ExoPlayer to begin with, but we have to assume they thought it was the best overall option at the time. Pros and cons considered.
Pretty sure they use it for format support primarily.
For everybody:
You guys need to give Dave less yelling and instead be more constructive! - Plex has an interest in making their product as attractive as possible - so bring arguments instead of flaming.
There is more to it than just “update” as Plex most likely built a lot of stuff around it - this means that when they update Exoplayer, they most likely have to do a lot of extra development to make sure that everything works as Exoplayer might have changed the way stuff works.
You’ve posted the same thing so many times, in the same thread and elsewhere, that it’s bordering on antisocial. Would you please tone it down?
Developers,
Please add support Dolby Vision in MKV which already included in Exoplayer v 2.12
Its going to be in 2.12, but currently 2.11.8 is the latest release
And now we wait and beg Plex to listen to their customers and act on it, something they seem to have great difficulty in doing.
