Import/export ratings from web or Linux player

Hi all. I’m new to Plex and I’m trying to find the ratings and view status database on my computer.

I’m looking to use it as an alternative to JustWatch where I’d be able to import/export my ratings. I’m not particularly interested in the media-server features, I mostly want to rate content and use links to streaming services. I’ll be content if I can access the database, write a short program to import my existing ratings into it, and just know that I can extract the data if I ever move to a different app in the future.

I subscribed, rated a few movies and series, and enabled “Sync Your Watch State and Ratings”. I use Ubuntu Linux. I tried installing the plex-desktop and plexmediaserver snap packages and I can see my ratings in both the desktop app and the web app served by the server.

However, I can’t find the database for either app.

  • For the desktop app, I opened /home/me/snap/plex-desktop/common/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db with sqlitebrowser and tried to look for the right table but I couldn’t find wat I was looking for. In particular, the metadata_item_settings table contains just one dummy row.
  • For the media server, I just can’t find anything that looks like a DB.

What can I do?
