You’ve certainly done a good job promoting this issue
We are definitely looking into this issue. We’ll post an update when we know more.
If all else fails, maybe we can all chip in and buy you a new receiver!

i’ve buied a new Ducati Monster 696+ White, no more money for a receiver
thanks for ur replay elan, u r0x!
ciao
YES YES YES!
My Baby!
Coming over to Mac from a Windows media centre for many years, this is a great piece of software…
Plus 1 for the AC3 as well, I have an old Kenwood receiver with the same problem, VLC,Eyetv etc no problems with AC3, thanks again for the fine work…
Same problem confirmed on my Sony STR-DB920 from about '99. We’re working on it!
I can tell you there is Brandon is coding his ass of and pulling his hair out trying to get proper AC3 going for you guys. He also spends his hard earned money on stuff other than a fancy new receiver so hopefully he’ll get it worked out.
My Marantz 7400 (from 2004) also has the same problem.
I would be very happy if you could collect some money for me and very pleased to buy a newer one
Just kidding!
I am sure you will find a solution
No luky for us with Release 0.5.0b6 + June 08th 2008 Fixes.
When i play in DD5.1 mode, i heard only a cyclic sound like an helicopter
Bummer, we were hoping that linux branch merges might have helped, Brandon has gone back to coding his ass of to get this going!
Idea: cannot use the VLC audio-library? with VLC mine sinto works well in DD5.1
Brandon is looking at the library and trying to figure out what they do “right”
For those of you having trouble with AC3 and receivers, please try the binary located here:
afp://dn-0.com/samples/Outbox/XBMC-ac3.bz
You’ll have to replace the binary in Contents/MacOS and make it executable. It PROBABLY won’t fix the problem, but I’d like to hear what happens. Keep the volume low in case it spews noise.
Thanks!
It doesn't work on my receiver :( but 10x for the works!
Silence or noise?
Noise, like an helicopter
This is a sample
Same helicopter with my Denon AVR-1800…
Hi,
Another person with non - working AC3, with a fairly old Sony STR-DB930 receiver.
Typically AC3 content will light the multichannel light (ie. 5.1 source) on the receiver, but I get no sound (silence, no helicopters).
Using the patch above results in no multichannel light, DD 2.0 displayed on the receiver, and the helicopter noise…
AC3 works fine on the same files played in VLC.
Cheers
Jon
