Server Device: Synology DS920+ (DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 1)
Server Version DSM: 1.30.0.6486-7000
Server Version Docker: 1.30.0.6486 (running on host network)
Player Version Windows: 1.59.1.3398-dab42972
A couple of days ago I had to replace my router (FritzBox 7530 AX) by another one (MikroTik hEXs). So far everything is working as before from configuration point of view (address spaces, DNS …).
But since then I’m not able to establish a secure local connection from the Windows apps (Plex and Plexamp) and the connection gets marked as “Indirect”. Remote connections on the same devices working fine.
I’ve also tested the iOS app (IPhone) and the Android app (Shield TV) and both are fine for local and remote connections.
I’ve read about DNS rebinding but this should not be the problem, since I’m using Cloudflare DNS with fallback to Google. My ISP DNS servers are not available at all inside my network.
What I’ve tried so far without success:
Switch back to my previous hardware configuration
Native DSM app instead of Docker
Plex app sign out/in
Plex app reinstall
A lot of reboots in between the tests
I hope someone could give me an advice or hint, because I’m running out of ideas after two very long nights .
The network is private, I can also see other devices like the NAS where the Plex server is running.
Edit:
I’ve created a clean Windows 10 VM and even disabled the firewall. Direct connection is not working as well.
I can upload the log of my Windows and iOS app if it helps. Is it safe to do it here (open to the public)? Because I can see that it contains my public IP, ports, CertificateUUID etc.
Currently I don’t have any VPN installed and I’m sure there is nothing wrong with my PC network configuration. At the moment I’m only use a VM just to make sure nothing else on the system is messed up.
I’m just using the build in Windows Defender and Firewall. I’ve disabled them also inside the VM.
My PC does only have a single cable connection to the router.
The connection for http://server_ip_address:32400/web is working fine, the server is marked as “Nearby”.
I think it is something in my router network configuration, because it is the only thing that has been changed. But I have no idea what could cause a behavior like that.
I will shutdown all my network components and replace the MikroTik hEX s again by my old FritzBox.
Ok, now I can tell that is has definitely something to do with the router configuration. I shutdown all my network devices, switched back to my FritzBox and started all devices.
After this procedure I was able to get a secure local connection on all devices.
After three days of research I could fix the issue by selecting the preferred network interface (Any → eth0). It is completely unclear for me how this can be the reason, but it is. Maybe would be an good idea to make an note inside the Network documentation.
