Infinite buffering when opening files on Nvidia SHIELD player (and other issues)

I don’t know if it against te rules. If not, I can share that build. I have a shield. 2019 TV pro, so it is the 64 bit version.

I’m also having this problem with the 2017 model. Is this being addressed?

I don’t see a reason not to share it. A moderator promised to update the download links, but failed to do so for 2 weeks. And before, officials posted beta versions here to test and get feedback.
After all, our feedback is helping Plex to fix things.

So in the end it is a Win-Win situation, isn’t it?

Here is the latest testbuild for the Shield 2019 tv pro, the 64 bit version

I also tried the latest beta in the playstore, but it won’t play anything. This version is working here as it should be. The only thing is that sometimes skip intro has a sync issue. But skip back a few seconds and everything is ok.

Thank you @Glassertje :+1:

Before I’ll try it out:
When I install that apk:

  1. will it overwrite the existing installation of Plex or will it be a separate one?
  2. If it overwrites, how will updates from the PlayStore be handled?
  3. How can I re-install the stable version (without losing all configuration)?

You can only install this version, if the installed version is older. You must disabled google playstore auto update, becourse, if there is a new version number, it will update.

You can only reinstall the stable version if the testbuild is older. If not, than you have to uninstall the testbuild. You only have to setup plex player. No change at the server site.

Sorry for forgotten this info in the previous message.

Can anyone share the 32bit APK for my Shield tube?

This one seems to have fixed my half year long issue on my Pro 2019.
Now I just need an apk for tube 2019.

@sixones We could use the build for 32bit.
The 64bit version posted 2 days ago from Glassertje works perfectly.

If I try any versions from here the issue remains: Plex for Android - #410 by akila_plex

How short is shortly?

There is a 8.28 beta now, anyone tested it yet? Plex: Stream Movies & Live TV 8.28.0.29859 beta APK Download by Plex, Inc. - APKMirror

You can follow the announcement thread to be notified of new releases. Scroll to bottom, change Normal to Watching.

Woohooo… Installed the beta on my Tube Shield 2019 and the playback problems seem to have gone away finally.

I installed the beta. currently testing. What I can already say, some 4k movies are forced to be transcoded. I cannot have DTS HDMA or Atmos passthrough.

When transcoding the 4k movie (Hardware or software) I get loop every 30 seconds.

NB : Sale movie is working like a charm with Kodi (audio passthrough and video), file is on an unraid server.

→ problem is not coming from the shield, nor the network, nor the storage, but from the Plex server , or the App…

→ Problem there for Month now, really a shame when you are paying a Plex Pass

Installed the beta.

First show started right up, then died with the buffer circle of death 35 seconds in.

Started a different show, it died 42 seconds in.

Installed the latest beta versions on both my nvidia shields. Fixed all my issues and hasn’t introduced any new once.

Haven’t tested 4k high bitrate content yet. But shouldn’t be an issue with transcoding on Intel UHD 750.

I recently (sometime in the past 4-6 weeks) have been having the same issue using Chrome as my player. Here are my observations.

  1. Infinite buffering is the main issue.

  2. It happens on about 10% of my movies.

  3. Playing the movie on another player (I use VLC) and the movie plays fine, so the media is not corrupt or bad

  4. If you replay the movie that exhibits the infinite buffering again, it will infinite buffer in the exact same spot.

  5. If you exit and re-enter or skip back/ahead sometimes that will fix the problem, but then it always infinite buffers later in the movie, usually within a minute or two and that is when I exit Plex and play the movie with VLC

  6. I never had this problem before, all media used to play perfectly, now Plex is very frustrating and almost unusable.

I have no idea what is causing this behavior. The only hypothesis I have is that the recent code for the player is somehow having problems with certain codecs since a large percentage of movies have no problem at all.

Thanks in advance for the help. Though not a Plex expert, I am a Plex enthusiast, and would really love to see this issue resolved quickly.

This issue is about the Nvidia Shield, I would go start a new thread with your issue so you don’t clutter this thread with an unrelated issue.

Builds from this thread are fixing my playback problems so far, i only noticed that frame rate switching is not working as intented, so i have to use the manual switch of the shield.

Please can we have the 32bit apk? I’m sick of the constant issues on my shield tube!
