Information for country field inconsistent + multiple countries not getting pulled

Further delving into the metadata I realized that Plex is populating the country field very inconsistenly. Sometimes it writes CA and then it says Canada, sometimes JP and then Japan on other titles, which is bad for matching and filtering and requires a lot of manual work to fix on larger databases.

I guess this is due to the different sources Plex pulls the data from but I have found no option for Plex to limit it to one. I have for example set the cast info etc. all to IMDB as I find their information to be the most complete. They also have the origin country or countries consistenly all written out and not in short form so I would prefer Plex to go shopping there. Any chance to do that or achieve a somewhat consistent result?

My agent settings for Plex Movie currently are

  1. Local Media
  2. Plex Movie (all options set to IMDB)
  3. Cine Material
  4. Fanart.TV

Also I realized that Plex is always pulling only one country even if there are several countries involved in the making of the film. Is there also a way to get all of the information automatically?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’d try first to move Plex Movie to the top of the stack.
Just to prevent embedded metadata from mp4 files to be prioritised. Those can be horribly wrong and inconsistent.

Thanks Otto. Just tried it, same result unfortunately. Even when leaving out the local data completely so it must be one of the other sources failing here.

Let me give you guys an example:

For this movie

Plex pulls as country: BE (which is inconsistent as it pulls “Belgium” for other movies and incomplete as there are also more countries involved: Germany, Israel, Poland etc.)

Also if there is just one country involved Plex pulls inconsistent data, for example:

Plex pulls as country: USA

for the sequel

Plex pulls as country only: US

despite the fact that at least on IMDB it is listed in both cases as USA.

I don’t necessarily mind Plex using short versions for the country but I would like it to handle it consistently to have a clean database. Any ideas?

Oh, and I just found a title where Plex did indeed pull the information for multiple countries as availabe on IMDB:

Here it did pull the full list with Luxembourg, Spain, USA and so on. It gets more and more confusing and inconsistent

Please post the Plex XML info of both of these movies.

For some reasons it won’t show me the XML file (screen just stays blank). Maybe it’s because I am on remote access currently? Than i would have to try again from home tonight.

I guess the info the web shows in non-xml-mode won’t be sufficent, correct?

Use a different browser. Or try to right click on the white page and tell it to display the page source code.

Thanks, Source Code worked. Here’s what I get:

Thanks again for your help Otto!

OK. Both movies are ‘matched’ with the Plex Movie agent.
Were they added into your library at around the same time
or was there a significant time between the two?

Have you tried to refresh both movies?

Yes, both were added at the same time.

General refresh did nothing, individual refreshes however did the trick on 95% of the cases. The rest I will do manually.

I will keep an eye on the issue see if it reappears. Thanks a lot for your help Otto!

Sorry, I need to pull this up again as it keeps happening. A manual refresh will solve it here and there, but on some movies I need to do more than 10 refreshes til Plex gets it right, some don’t react at all. I got over 500 movies and shows having a wrong country tag (FR instead of France etc.) and showing only one country with like FR even if more countries have been involved.

Anyone found a workable solution for this yet?
