Inserting data into database

am I way off if..
Hello,

I've written a small perl script that extracts show name, season, episode and video format (vcodec, acodec and so on) from my archive. The question is: if I insert this data into Plex' database will PMS then (at a scan) fetch the missing data, such as covers and so on?
