Installed latest Plex Media Server (1.25.6) on Intel Mac running OS 11.6.4 (Big Sur)

When I attempt to launch Plex Media Server I get a "not found “404” message. Even before installing the latest version my original server would not open when I attempted to launch it. Before today it was working perfectly… I am afraid I am totally lost at this point and do not know how to get the server working again and pointing to a new local drive with files… My plex app does work but says it cannot find the server…

Are there any messages about those failing launches of your server in the server logs?
If the Plex Media Server doesn’t even get to the stage where it starts writing to the logs, you can attempt the following procedure to see if there’s any error messages on the OS level:

  1. Open /Applications in Finder and select the Plex Media Server.app item
  2. Select Show Content from the app’s context menu
  3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS
  4. Open the Terminal app
  5. Drag the Plex Media Server executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it

This is no different from running the app – so it won’t succeed. But you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.

Somehow, it all started working properly again. Perhaps a Menehune (Hawaiian leprechaun) touched my machine and magically inserted a solution. All I had to do was eliminate an old “server icon” from the pinned list and point to my new content drive… All is well and thank you for helping…

If it hadn’t come back to life, I would have definitely followed your steps above to see what error message came up…
