Installed Plex on Synology (My NAS IP):32400/web but Plex will not launch

Synology 218+ - Installed most current Plex version as manual installation in Synology. Using “Quick-connect as one test, and “Synology Assistant” as another and with Express VPN on, and Express VPN off as combination variables for both approaches. In each case I receive the following Message: 'safari can’t open the page (192.(My NAS IP):32400/web” because the server where the page is located isn’t responding." Any insight is appreciated!

Using FileStation, go to the Plex share.
Drill down until you see the Logs directory.
Right - click ->> Compress to Logs.zip

Attach that ZIP file here

It seems I don’t have a Plex share setup… :frowning: I need set that up first I presume

Installing the Plex app creates the Plex share.

It does all the basic setup. The only thing left for you to do after installing is open it and complete the final interactive setup for your media.

I presume you downloaded and installed (successfully), the X86_64 version of Plex for Synology.

When you installed in Package Center, it it ran successfully, it created the Plex user and Share.

Then, you allowed it to start/launch, it will have done the preliminary server initialization in the Plex share.

It then waits for you to open it in your browser to claim and finish that final setup.

Did any of the above steps not happen?

Hi… and thank you for your assistance! I do have a plex file share. I was following a tutorial on ensuring access permissions were correct and made some adjustments. I do not see (in Control Panel, Application portal) The plex app… not sure if I should be seeing it there or not. in answer to your question, I did install the x86 64 version of plex, yes, I installed it in package center and it shows as “running”. When I click on it to launch however, it does not launch

I am the author of the installer.

The only permissions you should be setting are in Control Panel - Shared Folders.

You give user Plex permission to Read or Read/Write the shares your media files are in.

If you’ve adjusted other permissions, specifically those of the Plex share, I recommend:

  1. Uninstall the app.
  2. Control Panel - Users - delete user Plex
  3. Control Panel - Shared Folders - delete the Plex share
  4. Reinstall. (I handle everything)

I am attaching logs

REDACTED LINK (Moderator edit)

thank you . i will try that as well.

What you attached did not upload.

Drag, drop, wait for the forum to show you a URL. All I see above is a link to your LAN which isn’t accessible by anyone.

Apologies… I have removed everything as you had instructed and reinstalled it. awaiting completion then I will re-check

OK - I deleted everything you noted and reinstalled. When I select “Open”, again, nothing happens. I will now go get the logs and provide them to you properly.

When I navigate to Fole Station, there in not a file for Plex. (Apologies, I don’t mean to seem stupid)… I do have (as an example, "Downloads, Time Capsule, Video etc. but nothing called Plex)

Control Panel - Shared Folders

You will see the Plex share.

Permissions Tab

Add your username to it.

HOWEVER there is nothing in there you need unless I ask for the Log files to be manually gathered. Never put media in there.

For Movies, Television series, or Music, you create your own shares , e.g. “Movies”, “TV”, “Music” and put your files in there.

These are the shares you give Plex permission to read.

Yes, under permission tab (for Plex) for Local Users, it is set to Custom. Expanding Custom, it has permissions set to allow Admin read and write, allow plex read and write , and, again for Plex to allow “Full control”. I have not changes anything as yet. This is all as a result of the download.

Also, (again, as currently configured), as an FYI… under Advanced Permissions, All the following are checked as disabled (directory browsing, modification of existing files, and file downloading)

everything is as it should be.

  • What does package center report as its status?
  • What is the LAN IP of your Synology?
  • What is the LAN IP of the computer you’re trying to access it from?
