Plex Media Server - Not Authorized You Do Not Have Access To This Server

Hi, I recently upgraded my Synology Diskstation to DSM 7. Correspondingly when Plex stopped working I checked the forums and did the uninstall and reinstall of Plex according to the steps detailed by @ChuckPa . After installing, when I try to open the Plex Media Server, I’m greeted with the message Not Authorized. You do not have access to this server. What seems to be the problem, and how can I fix this? If more information from my end would help, please let me know what is needed. Thanks a lot in advance.

If this has already been answered elsewhere, appreciate any help to redirect me to it. I’ve been reading the forums for the last few hours trying to find a solution and am a bit lost at this point…

Hi there, thank you so much for reaching out to help me.

I’ve created the log folder, and this is the attached file as per your instructions.

PlexLogs.zip (41.5 KB)

Thank you, I will have to try that later in the day because there are a bunch of people working from home and I can’t reboot the router/modem right now. Will update you soon.

Hi there, I’ve followed the steps properly (I think) and it still doesn’t seem to work. I’ve attached the logs here.

Thank you.
PlexLogs (1).zip (211.9 KB)

Using another web browser and the url that you gave me seemed to do the trick! Thank you so much, I’ve been trying for a couple of days to solve this!!

Hello everyone,
I am looking for some help as well. I have the same issues as described in the post. though none of the above steps could help me.
I have a fresh synology 920+ and updated to DSM7, manually installed the 64bit DSM7 Plex server, haven’t really used it before. Please find attached the logs. Restarting router, diskstation restart, claiming the server as described, using google chrome instead of safari, none of that worked. Any more ideas?.. I would appreciate that!
Regards,
criggy

Okay sorry, I thought I would just jump on the thread with my problem instead of creating another thread.
Basically I freshly installed Plex on my DiskStation that I just updated to DSM7. There is nothing to migrate. I get a confirmation that the claiming of the server was successful. As I would simply like to start PlexServer, this window appears.

I have the logs enabled, but can’t make much sense of them.
Please see attached logs if useful.
PlexLogs.zip (89.5 KB)
I restarted the DiskStation as well as the router itself but I can not seem to find the problem. I played around with permissions, but don’t see how the DSM7 problems relate to the actual starting of the application. I updated my chrome to the newest version, but this also did not change anything.
Maybe it is worth mentioning that the links above don’t seem to work for me..

I did download it from the downloads page. I will try that, thanks for the quick response!
I have to correct myself, they are not identical.

Alright, thank you! I will follow up on my end how to change this. Appreciate the quick help!

So, thanks to Trumpy81 I could find a workaround.
The diagnosis that NAS and PC are on different networks was incorrect. I also do not see how this could happen on a standard home setup as I am driving it.
So maybe this will be useful for someone else like me:
Instead of using the links provided by the DSM GUI look up your NAS IP address in your local network.
Use the link http://192.168.178.x:32400/web/, where x or the whole string has to be replaced accordingly.
It worked for me in Chrome, but I needed to open the link 3 times and let it load - but you will see there is no access denied anymore. Cheers!

Thank you trumpy81 for pointed these things out. I shall keep these suggestions in mind for the next time I am getting in touch on the forum. The 10.0.0.10 address comes from a previous reply to this thread which was just an attempt to fix things. Fact is the DSM link did not work previously, manually looking up the IP address and adapting the link manually worked and now even the DSM link works. Nothing else happened except a few hours of time passing. I failed to read this instruction anywhere when downloading PMS, so maybe it is intuitive for some, but maybe not for others. Interesting first experience with Plex with very quick support though, thank you for that.

Exactly. The IP address comes from a post to this thread 19 days ago, in response to an uploaded log file. So it was not fitting. In an attempt to just follow all the instructions given here in this thread, I also tried this.
Again, you confirmed that the DSM links are not working correctly under certain circumstances. I was not aware of that. This is what caused the issue in the first place. No blaming here in any way, but for noobs like me it would be nice if this would be pointed out more clearly. But please, not sure where we went wrong. I am appreciative of your quick responses and how that led me to dig a little deeper into the issue - and now PMS works beautifully. Cheers.

Hi All.

I hope everything is going with you.

I read everything in this article and i followed everything but still i face the same problem. actually i dont have expereince in networking so i couldn’t reach to Plex log on my synology DS220+. DSM7.0

I understand from you that both my Laptopn & NAS Drive should be on the same subnet which i did it and i confirm it is matching.

I download the plex from the Plex Downloads not the Beta Version. I really getting tired to Solve this.

Thanks in advance.

Mohammad

Thanks dear it is working now after i restart all the devices

Hello trumpy81,

I’m having a similar problem i’ll explain here…

I had a power outage 2 days ago and when I logged into my Plex afterwards I noticed my server (Synology NAS) was offline. I turned the server back on and it didn’t connect with Plex. It was late at night so I didn’t investigate it further.

The next morning I noticed it was still having problems connecting so I went into Plex to try and troubleshoot it. I ended up deleting the server (I now know this was the wrong move) and tried to start fresh. Then I noticed an update inside DSM so I updated to DSM 7. Followed all the instructions I found on forums to make that happen and when I finished I wrongfully downloaded “Plex Media Server for Mac” notPlexLogs.zip (227.6 KB)
realizing I was making my Mac the server and not the Synology.

I made a lot of noob mistakes and it’s been a few days of troubleshooting and me not being able to figure it out. I came across this thread and followed your instructions on how to get the log files. They are attached and hopefully you can help me get everything right?

Thanks

Hi,

I think I’ve followed what was directed, but this is my first day with a Synology device and with Plex. When I try to go to setup after install, I am also getting the “You are not Authorized” message. When I look in the server log file, it tells me that the request came in with unrecognizable domain.

My home network is managed under 17.16.15.x - and everything follow that protocol. As far as I can tell, we all have the same subnet mask, so I’m wondering if that is a problem or not - doesn’t seem like it should be, but what do I know? I use the claim token, and it tells me that works.

Anyhow, I’m hopeful that someone has a moment to tell me how I’m messing this up - thanks!

Plex Media Server (3).log (673.8 KB)

So I tried something different that worked - instead of using http://NAS_IP_ address:32400… , I used //DeviceName:32400… (For me specifically, instead of 17.15.16.12:32400… I ended up using //TheMatrix:32400…)and the process worked. Hopefully that might help, so I figured I’d share.

Hi Trumpy81 - Just recently joined this forums, but I have been reading up, following instructions and trying to see if I am able solve my issue on my own before asking for help, but I am l just stuck at the minute and could really do with your help or anyone else for that matter.

Current Situation
I have upgraded to DSM 7 and I am using the correct Plex file downloaded from the site so not the beta. Installation seems fine in that I did not get any errors and my server was claimed successfully.

The issue
When I hit open on the Plex - I am navigated here - http://40.40.40.20:32400/web/index.html#!/setup/86061dc0c0630418a0f1c34500d1caafd0fabad0, then I get the not authorize message, which I am sure you are by now familiar with.

I have already signed out and unclaim the server, then install with Plex token…I get the same issue…I have attached my Logs.zip (4.8 KB), so hopefully you are able to assist me.

Thanks
