Installing a new app on AppleTV -- without hijacking Trailers

Switch your ip and dns to auto on the atv install profile then reset atv, you can access it from recent in profiles to reinstall the bag.plist

Not sure what I am doing wrong, but the AddSite icon won't show up on my homescreen.

I've added addsite.mc to my web folder on my NAS.

Then added it via the play/pause hidden menu and it then shows up under profiles.  Then restarted the ATV but the icon never shows up on the ATV homescreen.  I have a jailbroken ATV2 running 5.3.

The only one thing will help you is to change iTunes store to US region. Add any apps and go back to your region.

This is a tutorial on how I did it on a mac 10.8.5,

...

Create a webserver

...

You do not need a new webserver.
What you do in point 1 is to setup plexconmect to serve the mc and bag files.

Just start plexconmect after you made all the changes to the files and the two files are then available at http:// yourip/file.ext

It is always a good practice to understand what changes you make :)

Are you talking about mac, pc, or linux? You cannot serve these files to your apple tv unless you have someway to access the files from the atv. Have you even installed this on osx? Doubt it. Unless you can explain yourself better your previous statement is useless. Lmao file.ext thats a good one. Without evidence of this ignore this post guys. You need these files on your appletv for it to work. Also where is this file.ext in the previous posts, nowhere to be found.

By the way, Good tutorial, thank you for taking the time.

When plexconnect is running whith changes in your point 1 the files should be placed under the folder assets and then they available on atv just as http://yourip/bag.plist and http://yourip/addsite.mc

I’m on Mac but should not make any difference.

If you use your webserver then you can skip step 1.

End thread.

It looks like Apple is remotely removing the Add Site button. Reboot your Apple TV and poof it’s gone.

Why cant we disconnect our routers from the internet temporarly, restore to a working .shsh with addsite options, addsite then add your apps, then hook it back to the internet? I still have my added apps even though addsite is gone :)

Think outside the box guys

shsh has nothing to do with it. I just tried on a fresh 5.3 atv3 and the Add Site button never appears.

If you are hooked to the internet I can see why. Obviously apple is automating this removal process when you hook it to the internet. They have a backdoor into your appletv. If it was ever hooked up it was removed just like when they changed the trailers app. Obviously the atv is getting updates without updating to newer ipsw’s via the internet. Disconnect your internet and retry. We should dump log files and see how they are remotely changing our devices all at once. Then put a block like updatebegone for the backdoor they are using. Its our device, plexconnect is the reason I have multiple apple tv’s. Someone will figure this out just will take some time. Obviously we have some apple guests here looking at plexconnect for addsite to get removed.

Without internet apple tv can't choose your location, so the button will not appear. I have tested this already.

I have appletv 3 with 5.3 and I made a fresh start.

The method has also been reported on the TUAW web site, which may have brought it to Apple’s attention.

Yeah, it's looking like Apple's doing some kind of check at the ATV -> Apple level, and it's not showing up anymore. Disappeared from both my JB 5.2 and stock 5.3 devices overnight. :(

I don't have much time over the next couple of weeks, but have a couple wild theories. Not sure they'll pan out, as they involve stuff I didn't quite grok the first time around....

Apple might've ended the party. I really hoped this would last longer than a week.

I thought you just hit menu to skip that, I would try on mine but I dont want to lose my apps :P, I dont see how you couldnt skip it, can anyone else test this out?

I can!) Maybe you are right, cuz I accidentally cliked on non-native language and simply could hited wrong button)

This would explain why it wouldn't appear on my ATV.

Dang! Didn't get time to try this tonight (was reading the thread through the start). Got my profile and everything working, and then got to page 8! Boo Apple! :)

Apple really need to know that people are finding ways to hack atv just to add plex . Just give us what we want!!!
