Introducing Discussions on Plex

Hey everyone! Say hello to our new feature, discussions!

Discussions is a new feature that allows you to create topics (about literally anything) related to movies, TV shows, seasons, and individual episodes. This is now available today on mobile devices, Roku and Fire TV as it rolls out.

What are Discussions?

Discussions are a complement to our already existing social features on Plex. A Review is your verdict. A List is your curation of media. A discussion is everything else: the theories, the easter eggs, the “wait, was that a reference to…?”, the casting speculation, the plot questions you need answered. Long or short, one post or twenty, discussions do not have a set format, no rating, no score. This is a place to talk about the movie or show you watch with others who watched it too.

Discussion Visibility

A key difference with discussions is that they are 100% public. You can not change the privacy settings on an individual discussion you create or globally for any you make. You will see this reminder every time you create a new discussion.

If you don’t want to see discussions at all, from anyone, you can adjust your settings to hide discussions on Detail Pages.

How to Get Started

Did you just finish Season 2 of The Pitt and have some thoughts on how it wrapped? Catch a showing of Backrooms and want to learn the lore behind it? Or are you anxiously waiting for the next episode of a weekly show and need to share your theories?

Creating a discussion is that place for that.

Head to any title page (movies, shows, seasons, episodes) and scroll down to Start a Discussion! Give it a title (NO SPOILERS!) and fill out the body with whatever you’d like to talk about. Hit submit and you’re done!

While you’re waiting, why not look around and see if there are other topics you’d like to weigh in on?

What’s Next?

This is not a one-and-done release, there’s still more to come! Soon you’ll be able to @ mention other users in comments and we’ll release threaded replies so you can see exactly who you’re engaging with.

But, enough reading. It’s time for you to test it out. Start looking at some of your favorite media and participating or making your own discussions! Not feeling quite like jumping out there yet? That’s fine, you can still help to keep Plex a place we all want to be a part of by reporting content that violates our Community Guidelines.

Drop any thoughts or questions over in General Discussions and tag it discover or check out our Support Article for more information.

Happy discussing!

FAQs

Where can I see all of the discussions I’ve created?
On your profile page!

If discussions are public, but my profile is private… who can see my discussions?
Great question. Anyone will be able to see the discussions you have created as long as they are browsing the content you made the discussion on. No one will be able to go to a private profile page and see your content without you adjusting your privacy settings.

Can I edit my discussion?
Yes, just like Reviews you can edit your discussion after you have created it.

Can I delete my discussion?
Yes. If you delete your discussion it will remove any activities it created and all the comments and reactions it might have received.

How many discussions can I create per title?
As many as you want within reason. Don’t spam.

Can I share a link to my discussion on [insert any other platform here]?
Yup! Hit the share button and you can send a link to your friends or any other place you’d like to share it.

Can I limit who interacts on my discussion?
No. The only limitation is that users have to have a verified account to participate.
