First, let me say kudos to the Plexamp team. 3.1 is a good release, and it just keeps getting better. That being said, I have a number of what I think are ‘low hanging fruit’ UX enhancements that would really take Plexamp on iOS to the next level and not require a large code development effort.
-
When viewing an Album the release date and basic CODEC info is all the way at the bottom of the list. Move that up to be right next to the album photo. Also enhance the CODEC badge to show bit depth and sample rate, like you now can elsewhere in 3.1.
-
When you tap on a track, list the play list(s) that the track is a part of. In addition, when viewing an album have an icon/badge for each track that is a part of a playlist. Maybe a “P” badge?
-
When playing a song with an uber long title, slowly scroll the title instead of just truncating it.
-
When viewing a playlist track list, have a CODEC badge next to each track.
-
In the “All Music” view it currently just shows an alphabetized list of artists. Let us display by: All Albums, All tracks and All Playlists in addition to the All Artists view we have now. Album and Track views should also have CODEC badges.
-
When viewing an Artist it currently only shows a list of Albums, among other general info. Add a view that shows all tracks with the star rating and CODEC badge.
-
Add two ‘Streaming’ network toggle switches for a true offline mode: Cellular and WiFi. This will ensure that no streaming takes place over either (or both) network type, if desired. Plexamp would still be allowed to talk to the Plex server back end, but just not use up data for streaming tracks.
-
[Larger development effort alert] The Plex compatible player “Prism”, while visually not as stunning as Plexamp, does have an amazing Filters feature. It has 15 high level filter types, with which you can build complex filters for your library. Truly stellar feature! Copy that feature in Plexamp in its entirety.
Thanks for a great player! If there’s a beta that needs more reviewers, I’d be glad to jump on that bandwagon.
