Plexamp Requests/Suggestions

The app overall is great, a pleasure to use and undoubtedly smoother overall than using the main plex app for music. but theres a few things I’ve noticed in my first 48 hours of use that need a fix and/or improvement.

iOS:
-when scrolling, need a quick scroll-to-letter bar on the right to quickly scroll to a particular letter rather than having to scroll all the way to say, Z

-the track time scrubbing needs work. very difficult to search to a early time in a song eg. 2 or 8 seconds in. add a draggable bubble

-swiping the now playing screen down should be easier, right now you have to swipe too far down to make it minimize

-when a song, album, or artist name is too long to fully appear on the now playing or browsing screens, make them ticker scroll so that the entire name can be read. helpful when you have multiple versions of the same album

Desktop and iOS:
-on the now playing screen, add shuffle and repeat buttons

-make “all music” a tab, similar to how “library” is a tab in the main plex app

-on artist page, put the artist bio above the albums rather than below

-when you click on a song, have it play immediately, only have the menu with “play”,“play next”,“go to artist”, etc show up on a long press

-when creating a playlist, be able to edit order of songs to be played

-on the now playing screen, in the file type/stars/quality line, increase the max character limit so 320kbps shows as “320kbps” rather than “320kb…”

Lots of awesome suggestions, many thanks!

Just a note that you can simply tap the “v” button which is easier for many of us with smaller thumbs

There’s a preference for this, Advanced > 1-Tap Track Plays.

Where are you seeing it be truncated exactly?

for the first two, noted

i am seeing it truncated on the mac desktop app

Fixed in the next release.

Thanks again for the great feedback!

nice! and no problem at all. one more thought, any thoughts for direct airplay integration? for both this and main plex app on mac. when you use system audio to airplay it causes…issues…not sure how best to describe, it causes glitches in the stream when you airplay from system audio. never a problem when airplaying direct from an app tho (such as itunes)

I’m not sure how that works, tbh. The system AirPlay seems to work fine for me, although occasionally I hear dropouts on some receivers (which I blamed on my network or the receiver).

Another nice feature to add: the ability to remove songs from an already existing playlists. Tastes are constantly changing after all! Thank you so much for spearheading this project, @elan.

Yup, better playlist editing is on the list :+1:

Something I’ve found and I’m not sure if it’s more of a suggestion or bug. When you download a playlist (or album, artist, etc), if you play it from the Playlist area or the same songs from the album in Music, it streams from the server and doesn’t use the downloaded content on the device. iOS 13 with all updates in this case. On the normal Plex app, it will play the downloaded content from any location it’s played from (within the same server).

Additionally, when playing an item from Downloads, the playlist referenced above for example, it just immediately starts playing. There’s no way to view the playlist and pick a song to start with. It just plays the list on shuffle.

If this is a bug, I will open a new post.

@soulvoid86

I think this has been acknowledged as something they will fix. Just can’t find the thread right now.

something im now noticing - on the desktop app for Mac, hitting space bar to pause only works probably 1 out of 5 times - does nothing most of the time

It should work 0 out of five times as it’s not a supported shortcut yet

just using the app and was thinking, when you search a song and click on tracks, the search results should show the album and artist as well as the track name - i have 37 cuts of of a song and I am having to determine which is the one i am searching for based purely on its album art

Dear devs: I posted a rather disparaging review on the iOS app store, and I got your response. I tried to update my review to delete it, but it wouldn’t let me. Anyway, Touché. I was in a bad mood after learning a friend died from ALS. I may have been overly “passionate“ with my words.

I love Plex. I am also a professional music producer, and the ID3 record label metadata issue, and lack of better artwork management & viewing, has been bothering me & my colleagues for many years. After a few years of never getting a response to even hint that those issues were being looked at, yes, I got irritated to see a special app just for music playback that didn’t move the needle for us. Are these issues being worked out yet?

I have a problem with ‘style radio’. When pressed, I get screen with “To seek nothing I bliss”. My Plex server music has lots of genres.

Style<>Genre
Did you curate your genre metadata in your file’s embedded meta tags?
Edit your music library, go to the ‘Advanced’ tab, set the ‘Genres’ to Embedded Tags.
After a restart of plexamp, you should see Genre radio instead of style radio.

Hi,

Love the new version. I was waiting for it since a long time.
I addition to all other suggestions already made in this thread I would like to share on what I miss a lot in PlexAmp :

  • I would like to be able to play / /shuffle / repeat / download / from any list (ex : All Music) :
(sorry my mock-up is ugly) :

Without those small adding (see above), right now, it’s not possible to do basic things like : play all recently added music, play all music in the order of my choice. Currently this features are only available at an Artist or at an Album level…

  • Be able to sync in local ALL my music like I do in Plex iOS. Because I travel a lot (was travelling a lot ) I need to be able to play music with no network access. Currently user is limited to 24hours and can only download Artist by artist or album by album. If I add a new artist and a new album to my library on Plex Server I would like it to be synced to PlexAmp automatically like I do in Plex iOS. Any list (All Music, Recently added, History…) should allow user to download it locally (see mock-up above) as : full (no limit), (size - more useful from my pov than “hours” that do not tells me how much space it will take on device) or (hours).

  • It would be nice if the current play queue could be managed (change order, delete, shuffle,…)

  • Make plexamp more resilient : If my device il locked for a long time (hours ?) then PlexAmp is no more active and I have to launch it manually before being able to use it with ios command center controls. The worst use case is that it simply does not launch music when getting in my car because phone is connected to bluetooth automatically but often, PlexAmp is no more in foreground/background

  • Car Play ? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Anyway I love this new player and can’t wait to make it my main music player and replace Plex iOS ! Thanks a lot for this very promising tool !

Not sure what you mean by “curate”. If I filter by ‘genre’ I have my artist/albums grouped in the genres I want them to be.

Did you do this?

Edit your music library, go to the ‘Advanced’ tab, set the ‘Genres’ to Embedded Tags.

Thanks, Otto. Works, but not exactly what I am looking for (or maybe I am still ‘missing’ something)

I really do not want ‘radio’, which seems to randomly give selections from that ‘grouping’ (radio). What I want is to be able to, as in regular Plex, see all the artists or albums in a given genre, so I can make specific selections.

For example, Holiday(Christmas) genre, which has many albums spread out over many artists and album names. Going to that genre list makes it easier to find specific items to listen to.
