Plex has nothing to do with a poor choice of Storage Devices - and Seagates are among the worst - as everyone who has lived longer than 15 minutes will gladly tell ya…
And yet I’ve had a great experience with them so far!
May I be of assistance here?
Keep buyin’ 'em, Buddy.
We’ll never know how badly something sucks if there’s nobody using them.
I won’t be, but there’s ‘one born every minute’ according to Barnum (he never actually said that)…
The fact is, Seagates are popular due to ‘Advertising’ - not because they’re exemplary devices. They actually suck, just like Corvairs - and are the most dangerous vehicle on the Planet (until Ford invented the Pinto), but the few potential Victims of said device lived after the crash - and have one in their garage - hoping Jay Leno wants it.
“Hey, I’ve got a Seagate and they’re still working!”
Call Ripley.
OK cool. So @pshanew its official now. You’re wrong, your experience is flawed or biased and bears no relevance compared to someone who hasn;t used them for years.
I’ve had many years of experience with both in a data center environment…
All I am going to say is “Seagate Ironwolf” hands down…
Hi @ChuckPa - Wouldn’t mind knowing why my earlier post got hidden, thanks ![]()
Me too.
This is a discussion about Hard drives, not about enclosures.
The post was off topic and an advertisement at that.
This is the Synology forum.
I will gladly retag this thread and move to General Discussions if requested.
Yeah, would seriously have to disagree with that statement!
It was a post to show how I have been using them, and what my experience has been. It also included a comment agreeing with you regarding the necessity of buying NAS drives.
I believe the appropriate term here is “Busted” ?
nowhere does that belong in the Synology forum.
So by adding a link to a unit that I use, you consider that to be an advert? You have seriously misread my post… Anyways… Not gonna get into an argument over it… But seriously disagree with you.
That would be good.
Or why isnt any post mentioning WD flagged in a topic about Seagate drives.
Assuming it was some kind of auto flagging.
That’s just being pedantic!
No. Linking to an enclosure, which clearly is off the topic of
IronWolf 4TB vs 6TB hard drives
was the violation.
I flagged as off topic for that reason.
Chuck, you overstepped.
All that was happening here - and is still happening - is users having a ‘spirited discussion’ about storage devices.
We needed no Police Action.
Later folks.
Agreed ![]()
I’ve moved to general so my mailbox doesn’ keep blowing up.
Enjoy!
