I’m wondering whether it is possible to leverage the integrated graphics using intel quick sync to get more transcoding performance out of the NUC. When I start a transcode currently the iGPU is simply idling, so there should still be some performance left there right?
A Plex Pass is required to enable hardware accelerated transcoding.
This NUC has a i7-10710U CPU, which is of the “Comet Lake” generation.
Here you can see which video codecs can be used in hardware transcoding: Intel Quick Sync Video - Wikipedia
This CPU has also a decent passmark rating PassMark - Intel Core i7-10710U @ 1.10GHz - Price performance comparison
It should easily be able to manage multiple transcodings if you restrict yourself to 1080p resolution and AVC/H.264 video.
The occasional HEVC 1080p video should also pose no issue.
With 4K, HEVC, and tonemapping at once however, you might struggle with just one stream.
And yes, Plex Pass is required to utilize hardware transcoding in Plex.
Thank you @OttoKerner and @FordGuy61. That is more or less the specs that I’m looking for to be honest. And I’m willing to go for Plex Pass to get this feature. Without hardware transcoding my planned setup isn’t really viable.
