I see a lot on the web about adding the unofficial app store for plex. Does plex care if we install this add-on or do they frown upon it?
The UnOfficial App Store (WebTools) author is dane22, a Plex Ninja. I would venture to conclude that Plex does not frown upon its installation.
I would be surprised if Plex ever makes an “official statement” about any of the install-able channels. 1) This might imply endorsement. 2) Then users would expect Plex to support them directly. 3) They are user add-ons and not part of the core.
Thanks I just didn’t want to have a issue and be told I have a modified version or something.
do you have it? Is it worth adding?

That was what I was thinking i understand those issues as you stated them. They made sense.

Not unless you have a use for one of the applications there…
I don’t really know what’s there, I just see a lie of people talking about adding it to get more channels.
If you know how to install channels/plug-ins manually, you don’t need it per se.
But the UAS will allow you to install plugins much more conveniently (and also get rid of them).
Also the updating of those plugins is much easier.
Lately, WebTools has gotten additional functionality,
like the FindMedia module (searches for missing or unmatched media files)
or the Subtitle management (allows you to look at, download or erase ‘external’ subtitles - including those downloaded automatically by agents)
It also has a ‘log viewer’ which allows browsing of all server logs (the log download of Plex web omits logs from plugins).
Currently in development is a ‘playlist’ module which allows export (and soon import) of plex playlists as .m3u8 files.
It is a worthy companion tool for the advanced Plex admin.
Yes, I do have it installed and I use it to 1) check for updates to the channels I have installed. 2) run FindMedia checks to make sure that thing are working well. 3) pull logs for inspection.
And as you see above, OttoKerner, a genius Plex Ninja, opines that it is good to have.
