I will say this about the drives you have before departing.
Those WD’s will spit out 200MB/sec each.
My QNAP has 7200 RPM Red Pro’s and it pushes 250 MB/sec
Do you have SSH access to the server with the HDDs in it?
Transcode buffer does not increase the buffer for direct play items to my knowledge.
I have local access to it, just wasn’t home at the time. I can run speed tests again tomorrow.
The buffer did not affect direct play after my testing. I set it to 10,000 and it seems to buffer about halfway through the movie. So it was one big load on the drive and then very minimal thereafter.
you can try dd if=/dev/sdX of=/dev/null bs=1M count=10000 status=progress or hdparm -t /dev/sdX to test sequentiell read speeds very easily.
