Is it possible to have dolby atmos on a remote client?

Server Version#: 1.28.1.6104
Player Version#:?
My friend has a Roku Ultra and a Denon AVR-X1700H. If i put a movie with Dolby Atmos on my server then can my friend receive Dolby Atmos? I’m sorry if it’s asked before. I searched first but i couldn’t find it.
Thanks in advance!

Dolby Digital Plus + Atmos (used by streaming services)

  • Yes, if the audio direct plays or direct streams.
  • No, if the audio is transcoded.

TrueHD + Atmos (found on Blu-ray discs)
  • No. Roku does not support passthrough for TrueHD audio.

Prerequisite Your friend's system must be configured to allow Dolby Digital Plus audio to pass from the Roku to the Denon.

Good: Roku ← HDMI → Denon ← HDMI → TV
Good: Roku ← HDMI → TV ← HDMI-eARC → Denon
Bad: Any connection using optical cable, which does not support Dolby Digital Plus.

Notes:
  1. A Nvidia Shield or Xbox One X are the only off the shelf devices that passthrough TrueHD audio, including TrueHD + Atmos. Shield Pro preferred over non-Pro “tube” model due to non-Pro problems with high bit rate media.
  2. Plex Desktop and Plex HTPC can also passthrough TrueHD audio (on Windows, have not tried Mac/Linux). Available for download from plex.tv.

That’s a great explaination! I told her to buy an NVidia Shield, I have 2 of them and they are the best media players. She should buy that one. Thanks a lot for you reply and useful information!
