Is it possible to modify Plex to work for video archiving? If so how do I engage a developer?

I need an archiving system where we can have custom metadata, ingest videos, make them playable via the local network.

I have been camping on this thread waiting to see what the wiser minds would say… and since none yet have… Plex by design is not made to do what I understand (I’m sure poorly) you are after.

You may be able to get close to what you want by using a Home Video library and the Extended Personal Media scanner. - or - a TV Shows library and the Extended Personal Media scanner. Either way. folder structure and file naming is important.

I have expanded in another post, but will summarise here.

My work (an aboriginal media company) is after an archiving system that will allow local network playback - guest playback ideally. We need to be able to add content with our specific metadata fields. We’re after a custom engineered professional system.

I like Plex because of the user interface to be honest. We need something that the local indigenous people can use without it being a hassle and something that works on most devices.

We have a pretty good budget. I can probably get $50,000-$100,000 - more if it is a solution that can be used by all aboriginal media companies in Australia.

I will try to bring this to the attention of a PLEX employee for you. Sounds like a great thing you are working toward.

Thanks. Want to get the ball rolling this year so that I might have something to apply for govt funding 1st quarter of next year.

I got a reply that this has been brought to the attention of the BizDev group at Plex. Best of luck to you.

Awesome thanks.
