Is no-one else having trouble with Plex playing the #@$! TS files?

So 1.7.6 brought back ts files instead of MKV for PVR recordings and now the Plex client for Android (TV & not) will not play the resulting recordings! Well, for me anyway. I just see the spinning orange circle for ever more. I have to use KODI/SPMC to play the recordings I make with PMS DVR!!

Am I the only person to which this is happening?

How do you have the DVR configured? Do you have convert while recording enabled?

If I do that (Transcode) the resulting TS file will play but the transcoding squashes the 19:6 format into 4:3! It shouldn’t be that hard!! It all worked fine when MKV was used, and I cannot see any CC in the new TS files which is the claimed reason they dropped back to TS??

Well, I know on my Nexus 6P that mpeg2video isn’t supported, so it has to transcode during Live TV - so I assume it’s the same for a recording. I am making a recording right now and will test it on my phone and Shield TV to see if I have any problems.

Thanks @kegobeer-plex . I should mention that I am running on the NVIDIA Shield TV also, both PVR and Plex client, though I see the same playback issue on my HTC One M9 also. Blueskies, Paul

I just did a recording on my OTA setup and it plays on my Nexus, with transcoding since the mpegts container isn’t supported. No issues with playback.

Probably need to see your server and client logs to figure out what’s happening. I’d restart your Android devices and also restart the Plex Server (close the application, wait one minute, start it, wait two minutes). Then, try to play a recording - when the error happens, grab the server logs (settings -> help, download logs) and the client logs, and upload them here so we can take a look.

On the client, make sure you have debug logging enabled and you can access the logs after they are created. On the server, make sure verbose logging is DISABLED.

Hi @kegobeer-plex
Files attached, PMS running on NVIDIA Shield TV Pro 2017 model, but I ran the Plex client on my phone (HTC One M9) because I was not sure I could get tot he client logs on the Shield. I started playing the video at 16:30, watched the spinning circle for a minute or so and then stopped it at 16:31 .

Hi @kegobeer-plex , have you had a chance to take a look at the log files? I’d love to get this fixed if possible. Thanks and Blueskies, Paul

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I’m looking at the logs, but without knowing what show you were watching it’s tough to look in multiple logs and try to figure out what’s happening. Can you restart the Plex client application (reboot the device), and then close the Plex Server application, wait one minute, start it again, wait two minutes, then try to watch a TV show on the client? Grab all the logs again and post them, along with the name of the show you were trying to watch and the approximate time.

Also, I did see a few slow queries in the logs - do a database optimization before restarting the server application.

I just optimize the folder for TV, that converts all of the .ts files to mp4 and they play fine.

How does that work for watching Live TV?

only works for recordings of course

I am on 1.7.5 and its a big enough mess… 1.7.2 was far better but have not bothered to back out that far…

appletv live tv even though plex says 1.8 is required… seems to work better with 1.7.5

plex is becoming a joke yet again…

Will try to do that later tonight, but in the meantime the show I was trying to watch in the previous logs was “Dr Phil - 2017-07-24 00 00 00 - Episode 07-24.ts” started at 16:30.01 and watched spinning orange circle for a minute or so and hit back arrow at 16:31. Blueskies, Paul
