Is Raspberry pi a good alternative to my mac?

I have looked on a a Raspberry Pi model B Rev 2 (with rasplex), is this a good alternative to an pc connected with hdmi to my tv? Do I get 1080p and still no needs for transcodning video from the sever?

My PMS is 1% of load then I not use it, but get up to 97% then it is transcoding (for example then I use chromecast). Will it direct play smooth like my mac does (with srt subtitles) on a Raspberry pi model B?

And can I use my phone to find the movie, and press a button to watch it on raspberry pi (with rasplex) like I can with the normal plex home theater?

Do raspberry pi with rasplex have some limits? Like only support mp4 and aac audio, or not support srt files? It is good to know if it has any

I have a rPi and it doesnt ever locally transcode that I've found so far.

Nice, have you tested with srt subtitles and 1080p? :)
And can you press a button on the plex app on the phone and bring it up on the raspberry pi (like you can with the normal PHT)?

I cant affirm on top of my head on subs.  From all the docs, subs can be hit / miss regarding transcoding.

You can cast and otherwise remote the rPI.  I never used PHT but the rPI  essentially does and I wouldnt expect a huge difference.

Sorry, I don't undestand your two first sentences, can you try to write it on an easier way?
What I was meaning with the phone remote is this https://www.dropbox.com/s/rst4mqmuxu8sorw/2014-04-03%2020.38.09.mov can you do the same on rasplex?

What he meant was simply that he was doubtful about subtitle support, with some subtitle files not working.
I on the other hand know for sure that correctly made SRT subtitles do work with RasPlex, as in normal PHT.
He was correct in that there are some subtitle file types which do not work with Plex clients, but SRT does work.

As for 'casting' media files from an Android phone to RasPlex, this should work the same way as for PHT on a PC.
I'm not sure if I've tried all the same variants of such casting as you are accustomed to, but I have tried some.
