Movie playback with external .srt subtitles

Hello,

my PMS device is an old notebook, which can not handle transcoding very well - that’s why I have to use other notebook with Plex Home Theater, so that it plays movie without transcoding directly.

I consider buying RPi 2 as my playing device connected to TV via HDMI, but I’m not sure if it can handle 1080p movies with .srt external subtitles without transcoding.

Btw. my old PMS device doesn’t have HDMI (unexpected for 12yo notebook) - I tried transmittor from VGA to HDMI, but the VGA port is damaged somehow - that’s why I can not use it as server and player at the same time.

Hi

Yes it can. I have Rpi 2 and regularly play files with .srt subtitle files and no transcoding (my nas not powerful enough anyway).

I found out, that friend of mine has RPi 2 so I’m going to test it anyway - thanks for reply!
