I would really like to start using the Plex DVR as my main DVR but as long as the TV tuning is so slow it’s hard to justify. Are there efforts to speed it up?
One can only hope so. I also use Channels (apple tv app) and tuning is instantaneous and glorious.

Isn’t the Channels client directly communicating with the tuner though? Instead of going tuner -> Plex server -> Plex client?
You’re probably right; however, with the Extend and encoding enabled, I would still expect Plex on Apple TV not to be quite so laggy.
Maybe so but the HD app is working with the HD DVR app and it still tunes very quickly. So it’s possible.
Also is the Plex DVR sharing tuners yet?
