Is there a way to make Plex handle FLAC internally?

For a long time, Firefox has had a problem with playback of FLAC files. They will intermittently go completely quiet only for the sound to return ~10 seconds later (I’ve not actually looked into how long the periods are). Doing the same thing in Chrome for instance, works fine.

However, since Plex web lets the browser handle the playback of FLAC, this means any FLAC content will act up. Is there a way to let Plex handle this itself? The bug has been around for at least a year and Mozilla doesn’t seem very interested in fixing it, so any workaround would be appreciated.

Well Plex could transcode the audio, yuk, or it could send you the PCM,
but I don’t think it’s designed to send out that out. Interesting question.
I’d like to see if I can reproduce your issue if you have a few minutes.

Can you provide us with some samples or identify the problem file FLAC details?
They can exist in many flavors, 16/44.1, 24/192, 2ch, 6ch, etc.

I have a lot of FLACs myself, but I never use the web app.
Are we talking commercial artists? Local artists only?
Any details you can provide will help reproduce it.

What’s your computer hardware and OS these days?

Being a true stereotype Swede, I’m on my way home from IKEA. I’ll be home to provide details in 1-2 hours.

Edit: I need sleep. I’ll do it tomorrow, which gives me time to encode some of my own music into FLAC, as samples.

You can try the new Plex for Windows or Plex for Mac player. It looks like Web but has it’s own rendering engine so it’s not affected by browser bugs.

And let us know if you were trying https://app.plex.tv/desktop
I’m testing in Firefox-69.0.1 on macOS 10.13, and Flacs are okay so far.
