Issue when trying to watch movie in the same network than my Plex Server

Hi all,

Sorry if my question is not exactly in the right category, this is my 1st topic…
I have a FreeNAS server on which I configured a Plex Server. I added my media files, users, accesses, … It is working very well. My friends can use and watch movies, TV show from their computers, phones, TV Box.
My issue is that when I want to watch a movie from my phone or TV Box the player load the movie endlessly. I can navigate between the movies, TV show but I can’t watch them.
The tricky part is that when I leave my home (so I’m not in the same network than the Server) I can watch movies from my phone…

Any idea?

Thanks a lot for your answer.
Unfortunatly, I don’t think this apply in my case. I can connect to the server, I can see all my file (from and outside my network). I just can’t watch my movies, TV shows from my network (where the Plex Server sit). From outside my network it is working just fine.

Any idea?

I still think it applies to your issue.

So I tried this:

  • On my Plex Server, the setting ‘Secure Connections’ is set to ‘Preferred’ (should I change it to ‘Disabled’?
  • On my router I changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  • I tried from my phone with the Plex app, wasn’t working
  • I tried from my phone the web portal (http://app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=0) it is working

What do you think?

After this change, you need to flush the DNS cache (or simply reboot) all the local clients.
But it is only half the rent. The bigger issue could be a ‘DNS rebinding protection’ in the router, which makes it impossible to establish a secure connection to the server, within the local network.

I restarted my phone and most (but not all) the videos are working.
I restarted my TV Box (Android) and none of the videos works…
It’s a step forward but it is still strange…

Maybe this is the problem of the new player? Try switching to the old player in preferences.

Are you asking about the New Player or the ‘DNS rebinding protection’?

The former is a preference in the Plex client itself, on Android and Apple devices.

The latter is supposed to be located in the preferences of your ‘DNS resolver’ (for most regular users, that is integrated in their router). Though many routers don’t expose this setting to the end user.

Hi Z88m, your solution helped me, now I can read the video, but some movies/tv show do not have sound… when I check the setting of the video and I switch the ‘quality setting’ from ‘Original’ to ‘convert automatically’ it works. But if I choose ‘Convert automatically’ on te Plex client setting it is not working (I have to switch on every video I launch)
