I have recently been setting up Plex and I notice that I have an issue with Metadata in the TV library. I was reading your guide for how to properly set up your folder and file naming structure and most of my show are already like that minus the year the show started which I have been adding to shows to correct this the only difference is that I have my directory slightly different with an alphabetical folder structure inside of the TV Shows folder then all the show of that begin with that letter in the folder this is causing havok with the database information leading to folders for show I have never even heard of having multiple seasons listed and when you click on the season there will be files from multiple shows in numerical order. This occurs in both Plex and XBMC but the issue is more profound in Plex because even though the metadata is wrong in XBMC I can turn it off and it shows my proper folder structure whcih is preferrable to not being able to access all of my files. The issue with that is I would like to use Plex it is by far the most visually appealing of any media apps (XBMC, Serviio, Subsonic) the Windows 8 modern app is just brillant looking. So here is the real question what can I do to get around thiis issue with out having to change my file structure. Can I change the library for TV Shows to include not the parent folder but the individual letters folders themselves It would totally be a pain in the ass to have to do so but it would be worth it if it got all of my files to appear in the proper order. If this idea would fix the problem or if there is any other way to get around the issue would someone please let me know what I can do.
So if your directory structure like this:
/TV Shows /A /All in the Family /Season 1 /Season 2 /American Idol /Season 1 /Season 2 /B /Battlestar Galactica /Season 1 /Season 2 /Big Bang Theory /Season 1…and so on through the alphabet
And when you create a TV Library ion plex are you pointing plex to the "TV Show" folder?
You will have issuing doing it that way as the directory structure is too deep that way.
To get around it you would need to add all 26 lettered folders to your library, instead of just the TV show folder
Can I change the library for TV Shows to include not the parent folder but the individual letters folders themselves
Yes you can, just drill down to each lettered folder and add it, and keep doing that for each letter
Thanks set up the folders now I am just waiting for them to populate
