Hello all. Thank you in advance for Helping. Please feel free to clos topic if solution is already provided. I’m struggling for about a week and don’t see the light.
My home for TV Serie is: D:\Video\OK\Serie TV
Under this I have for example “Breaking Bad” folder. That means D:\Video\OK\Serie TV\Breaking Bad. Then I have “Season 01” (before was “Season 1”).
Inside I have episodes like this:
“Breaking.Bad.1x03 - Conseguenze.Radicali”
I can see them in the media library but of course they have no metadata. I tried to search manually, combining all possible languages and search options without success.
Then I found a Plex Guide about renaming (https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/#toc-2).
And here comes the strange thing:
ASAP as I rename “Breaking.Bad.1x03 - Conseguenze.Radicali” in “Breaking.Bad.s01e03 - Conseguenze.Radicali” and rescan library, the show disappears from Server !!
If possible and allowe, I can post screenshots.
Is there a way to solve this?
TY
It sounds as if your library type is not “TV Show” but “Movie”.
Make sure your library is of the type “TV Show”.
Edit this library,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
and make sure that the only path in there is pointing exactly to D:\Video\OK\Serie TV
Not one folder above, nor below it!
At the same time, make sure that no other Plex library is monitoring the above folder path.
Ty very much. You save my life :))) It was a big mistake from my side.
what i don’t understand is why it doesn’t take the italian titles … only if I force the match manually. do u have a solution to this problem too ?
Please explain further. Maybe add a screenshot to illustrate the issue.
I want to say that the files are named from Italian Series (with their italian episode name as they appear in TV).
For example, this is the first season of breaking bad in italian: Episodi di Breaking Bad (prima stagione) - Wikipedia
And here is the screenshot from my plex:
The “episode name” part of your file names is purely for you better finding stuff in your Windows Explorer. Plex will ignore that part.
Plex will match the show against TheTVDb.com and get the titles, descriptions, posters from there. Make sure you have Italian set as language for that library (hover over the library name in the navigation and click ...
> Manage Library
> Edit...
; set the language in the General
tab of the dialog to Italian => this will only take effect for newly added / newly matched shows; so you might want to re-add the show or fix-match them).
I just double-checked this… Breaking Bad has Italian metadata available… so with the library language set to Italian, you should get the right metadata.

Well thank you all for helping !!!
I solved all my problems.
TY again.
Hi Otto. My problem is a little different. one of my TV show series is found on a scan. It has 7 seasons and all the seasons episodes are stored in the season directory. However, on a scan it only finds the first episode in that season and no more. I’m trying to follow your instructions here but its unclear what you mean by “Add Folders tab” where are you talking about, in Plex, or on the drive where they are stored?
the instruction about the Add Folders
tab has nothing to do with your issue.
how exactly did you name the episodes of that show? can you provide the file names including their folder structure from the folder that is linked by your Plex library?
What format are your files? Plex will e.g. ignore .ISO disc images
Do the episodes by chance show up as different versions of that single episode that’s showing? (indicated by a blue-ish square on the episode thumb with a number, showing the number of versions of that episode)
There you go…
Plex is pretty picky / strict when it comes to naming your tv shows and their folder organization.
Structure and naming should look like this:
Shared TV Shows <- the folder linked to the tv shows library in Plex
Show Name
Season XX
Show Name - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext
Show Name - sXXeYY.ext <- Plex will ignore the episode title anyway
...
Where XX
is the season number, YY
is the episode number and .ext
is the file extension
Specifically:
Shared TV Shows
The X-Files
Season 01
The X-Files - s01e01 - Pilot.avi
The X-Files - s01e02 - Deep Throat.avi
The X-Files - s01e03 - Squeeze.avi
...
The X-Files - s01e24 - The Erlenmeyer Flask.avi
Most likely Plex has merged all files in that single episode of yours.
In order to fix this you need to correct the file names (folder structure is ok). Considering Plex already has finger-printed the files, you’ll need to perform a “Plex Dance” to make sure Plex doesn’t match them based on any cached information.
- Move the entire show out of the folder monitored by Plex
- Scan Library Files (via the context menu of that Plex library:
...
>Scan Library Files
) - Empty Trash (via the context menu of the Plex library:
...
>Manage Library
>Empty Trash
) - Clean Bundles (via the server settings:
Settings
>[Server Name]
>Manage
>Troubleshooting
>Clean Bundles
) - verify the files are now correctly named and return the folder structure into the
Shared TV Shows
folder - Scan Library Files (see #2)
Edit:
- support article on how to name/organize your tv shows:

Thanks, makes good sense. Take a while to do all the renaming, unless you can recommend some software that will help with that, but that should solve the problem.
On a Mac you can mass-rename the files using Apple’s Finder…
On other platforms you could look into FileBot
Worked like a charm!! Thank you!
