Issues regarding using an Xbox One Controller with Plex HTPC

Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797-5db057d2b
Player Version#: 1.17.0.3002-f753d4a0

I have recently downloaded the new Plex HTPC, as I was very excited to see the return of controller a player with my Xbox One Controller. I’ve been using the web player for a while now, and sorely missed sitting in bed without having to get up to my desktop every time.

However, I quickly noticed that the controller wasn’t working as intended. After some digging today, I seen that there was a support article for inputmaps and tried my hand at that.

The issue I’m finding is that for all intents and purposes, it should be working. There already is an input map for the Xbox One S Controller, and I’ve checked logs to make sure that is what the device is being detected as. In the article, it advises opening the player, pressing some buttons, exiting the player, and checking logs to see what the buttons are being recorded as. I thought, “Maybe they’re just not matching up for some reason.” However, the button presses aren’t being recorded at all.

I’ll post the latest log attempt I made, but you’ll see that while it detects the Xbox One S Controller properly, none of the button presses I made show up. It shows key presses (which I made to make sure I can see actions at all), and nothing else. In this attempt, after the last Up key press, I pressed A, B, X, Y, then D-Pad Up, Left, Down, and Right, followed by View, Menu, LB, RB, LT, RT, LS, RS, before hitting Esc and exiting the program. None of those are recorded at all.

If anyone has any sort of insight into this, please let me know!
Thank you in advance!

TLDR There is an issue with all game controllers, where they will not be detected if they are connected to your computer before the the Plex HTPC is started.

Below for more threads:

I also have this controller🎮 issue. (tested 8/12/2022)
OS: Windows 10 Home
App: Plex HTPC, version 1.23.2.3194-7787f5be, August 11, 2022
Xbox Wireless [USB] Adapter for Windows 10 (the “thin” one)
:video_game:: Xbox One (NOT the newer Series S/X with the center Share button)

If I launch Plex HTPC (with the :video_game:OFF), and then power-on the controller, it works. :white_check_mark:
But, if the :video_game:is already ON, and I launch Plex HTPC, it won’t work. :x:

Same issue. The controller only works when it connects after Plex HTPC launches. It makes for a very poor HTPC experience, as I then need to keep a mouse on hand.

Today I tried the new Plex HTPC; version 1.24.2.3216-59dc6103; August 30, 2022.

  • Win10 Home // :window: Win11 Home
  • Xbox [One] Wireless USB adapter // Xbox 360 Wireless USB adapter

Same exact issue(s) as before. :pensive::x::video_game::man_shrugging:
:face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Win10; Plex HTPC; version1.25.1.3248-ee5ac69e; September 7, 2022
Same :video_game: issue. Xbox One controller via USB wireless adapter only works if you turn on the :video_game: after you launch Plex HTPC, but won’t work if you launch it with the :video_game: already ON.
:pensive:

Plex HTPC; version 1.26.1.3276-53fefb7d; September 21, 2002
:window:Win 10/11 Home
:video_game:Xbox One S/Xbox One X(20th Anniv. edition) + Xbox One Wireless USB adapter

Great, now NO combination of the ^above works AT ALL. (versus half-working) :man_facepalming::angry:
Did the original PMP (Plex Media Player) not use SDL/SDL2? (I keep seeing comments about “SDL controller :beetle::bug:”.)

Plex HTPC; version 1.27.1.3311-94cb0aa3 (October 19, 2022)
:window:Win 10/11 Home
:video_game:Xbox One S/Xbox One X(20th Anniv. edition) + Xbox One Wireless USB adapter
:x:Still not working.:-1:
