I’ve been having some in-network streaming issues. Lets start with this one:
Windows 10 Plex Server - File source x265 1080p 10bit 8CH HEVC
Windows 10 App - Plays, but why is it Transcoding?
Windows 10 Chrome - Transcoding? (53.0.2785.70 beta-m 64-bit)
Samsung Tab S 10.5" - doesn’t play at all, stuck buffering (green screen on device)
Anything I need to do to fix this or is h265 just too new to be fully supported?
The Windows app only support HEVC (H265) in certain cases. This is the latest release note:
- (Video) Only try to Direct Play HEVC-encoded files if using 4:2:0 chroma subsampling
Also looks like the audio is being transcoded. In most clients, if the audio is trancoded HEVC also has to be transcoded.
For Chrome, I don’t believe Chrome support HEVC playback. The audio transcoding issue above could also be involved.
Your tablet doesn’t support HEVC but somehow is trying to direct play it. Did you enable Force Direct Play?
Thank you. I’m new to the h265 stuff in plex.
Direct Play is set to automatic on the tablet. Is the profile for the Tab S 10.5" incorrect.
There Plex app first asks your device what codecs it supports, it then decided based on this information whether to direct play or not. If not then it will transcode or remux as needed. It’s possible you device is reporting back to the Plex app incorrectly what it supports.
The only way to check is if you can provide the Plex app log, see my signature for instructions, right after playing back that file.
