Just wondering how difficult it would be for plex to add native support for audiobook libraries in both m4b and mp3 formats.
The main difficulty would be scraping metadata from book sources such as goodreads or audible.com. There is already a 3rd party plugin that does most of what is required, and here’s where plex can improve:
- make it native
- add an extra metadata element for Series name and number
- make it possible to resume playback from wherever you were in the book just by hitting play for the album
- allow separation into parts (a customised disk number field allowing alphabetic text might work)
- m4b files should also display in chapters instead of a single file
