Itunes & Plex - How to ? A Beginners Question

Hi guys,

I am brand new with Plex. Only got it a couple days. And i love it. But I miss having music in it. I mean, its probably good that they support Tidal, but I am a pure Apple Music kinda guy, and my collection is laarrrggge. Too large to ever switch again to another music Service.

So my question, how, if, can I use all my Apple Music (which as far as I know are songs with DRM protection through iTunes) in Plex ? If at all.

And what do I need to do, if there is such possibility, to make that work and add all my music into my Plex Library ?

If someone already has this working, i would appreciate any help for a detailed info about that. Didnt really find something on Youtube that did clearly showed me, or was even posted recently so its not something that might have worked a couple years ago, but would work now, in 2020.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

What I mean is that I have that monthy subscription, which cost 9.99 Euro per month. Not the same as if I would have bought all the albums manually in the Apple Store.

Well i can download the files also within iTunes onto my Windows PC of course, probably would then be something like.m4a music files. But they would have DRM.

I mostly only have the songs or lets say some, my Library on iTunes is rather large, on my mobile devices for when i am on the road. Here at home streaming the songs usually is enough. But as I said, i could download them all. Would just take a week or so ^^ if I download all.

The only streaming service which can be used with Plex at the moment is Tidal.

There are ways to make your owned music in iTunes appear in Plex, but that is not possible with the streamed, DRM-protected music you get with your Apple Music subscription.

That’s too bad. and with that a large library I don’t change to another streaming service. guess plex is not entirely perfect but really good anyways.

Consider this: the library is not really yours.
As soon as you stop your subscription with Apple, your access to it is gone.

So I assume what you call “your library” is merely a list of artists, albums and tracks which you like, right? If there were a way to ‘export’ and ‘import’ that list, you could take it to another streaming service. Because the catalog they are all offering is not that different. Exclusive deals do exist, yes, but they are almost always restricted to a limited time frame afer the initial release date.

Its probable that the most would be available on other Services as well, but since we use mostly Apple devices, it makes sense to stick with Apple Music for us now. and there would be still quite some i would not find on other services as well, and i am very particular in what i want. True, its all just subscription based, but this way i can have a much larger music collection than i could ever otherwise, especially buying it all. There is a pro and con to everything. You subscribe to Netflix or something else, same applies.

Even most software these days is subscription based, and doesn’t really belong anyone anymore, except those that sell it.

If i would try to buy and find all that music on CD, i would be broke for the next 5 years. I have made my piece that it is the way it is, as nice as it is, until it lasts. I have over 1500 albums on iTunes in my list, that’s a lot to start buying now piece by piece.

Maybe ufi would have started earlier, way way years ago,it would be different. But i switched to that digital medium and now i stay with it. And even buy the music in Apple Music Store would go beyond all financial possibilities with a large collection like this. Unless you have money just lying around.

Before I got stuck with Apple Music, i tried some of the others. Google Music, Amazon, Tidal for a short time and of course also Spotify. But Apple Music made most sense for me. So there i am.

Guess music will have to stay out of Plex for me.

Thanks though for your replies. Appreciate it. Cheers.
