Japanese Live TV (BS/CS) on MacOS Server - is this doable?

I’m looking into getting Live TV in Japan working, but I feel like I’m hitting a brick wall with my macos host.

From what I gathered, you need a combination of mirakurun+epgstation with a plex tuner like 株式会社プレクス - 地デジ・BS・CS対応 TVチューナー テレビチューナー PX-W3U4.
However all resources I found either run on Linux or on Windows, but nothing is available for Mac. I tried running the mirakurun docker container on mac but that didn’t go far either.

Is there any tuner that is usable on Mac to get Japanese TV and decode it without going through a Pi?

If using a Pi, does it need power? The one I have laying around is a pretty old model.

All right, I found that pixela has tuners that run on Mac including a software from them to watch stuff - Mac専用 USB接続テレビチューナー PIX-DT195W・PIX-DT195 - 特長 | 株式会社ピクセラ

Anyone know if the signal can be used for EPGStation/Plex?

I think that solution will only work in a stand alone mac app and not be able to import into plex for EPG and live tv. (though you may be able to move recordings into the plex library.

Take a look here for the supported tuners. Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas | Plex Support

There are DIY solutions on the web, like using slingbox or similar, however for the DVR/LiveTV features within Plex, I suggest a network tuner if possible for your needs.

Good luck.

You need xteve to make a virtual tuner of sorts to plug in to Plex but also Mirakurun has an update that allows you to plug in directly to plex.

Try running a virtual server of Linux inside of Mac and creating mirakurun and epgstation so you can then plug in to Plex Media Server.
