Just a little update since last year (New to NAS's and Plex)

Hello all,

Thought I’d show my head after this thread from 2020:

I have moved to the new ‘server’ now and all has been well, the odd issue with hard drives, but Free/TrueNAS has been forgiving. I don’t quite have the final storage (8x4TB), but I’m on the road to it. Having a very old machine or two to play around was really helpful - nothing better than losing data you don’t care about, but pretend it’s important!

Plex has been really impressive, with only a few issues when viewing remotely - though I might disable that feature on the final build, for security.

I set up an elderly couple with it last week, lots of personal videos stored on a Windows machine and they wanted to share it with the TV (one of them is infirm and can’t go in front of the computer). Works well…but sadly I’ve opened a can of words and some of their personal videos are only a few seconds long. I’ve suggested they use ShotCut or similar to join them all up into one file, so 20 videos of Boston are only 1. I’ve done a few for them - for people in their 80’s, they are incredibly computer literate. I don’t think I know of anyone else their age that has around 200GB of genuine data, pictures, documents, video’s, etc.

So there we go!
